Joey's family are held hostage at his house, suddenly the phone stared ringing and only Joey can pick up the phone. But he can't reveal the situation. He said " Hi mom, how can I help you? I'm home and about to go to bed. If it's not an emergency, can I call you later? I'm really sleepy. " 20 minutes later the police arrived and rescue them. How did Joey ask for help?

If Joey's family is being held hostage, it only makes sense that his mother is also being held hostage... meaning the person wasn't his mother so they called the police. He also said he would call back, and he didn't so maybe that's also a factor?

He probably saw the people who held Joey’s family hostage on their way to his house(like as if they were outside or something)and he called 911 quickly before they came inside and they arrived minutes later ?
