Joey's family are held hostage at his house, suddenly the phone stared ringing and only Joey can pick up the phone. But he can't reveal the situation. He said " Hi mom, how can I help you? I'm home and about to go to bed. If it's not an emergency, can I call you later? I'm really sleepy. " 20 minutes later the police arrived and rescue them. How did Joey ask for help?
He said " Hi mom, how can I HELP you?
I'm HOME and about to go to bed.
If it's not an EMERGENCY, can I CALL you later?
I'm really sleepy. "

Meaning - Mom, I need HELP at HOME. This is an EMERGENCY and CALL the police.

I think Police called him? And he thought that it's his mom

He probably saw the people who held Joey’s family hostage on their way to his house(like as if they were outside or something)and he called 911 quickly before they came inside and they arrived minutes later ?

I'm not 100% sure it's right but xD
So Joey's family is held hostage at his house and only joey can pick up that ringing phone. My Guess is that :
His mom called him and he said that if it's not an emergency ,he'll call his mom later, and his mom knew that they're in an emergency so she callee the police and 20 minutes later they arrived
