It is good that pickaxe can open chests, as ally mentioned, I like to open chests with pickaxe too. It can deal some dmg but it is not a main melee weapon like swords or axes.

Also, the chances of u getting weapon that has dmg better than or equal to diamond pickaxe is a lot higher. So I don't think ppl use pickaxe to melee.

Everyone has there own opinions but I’m just saying that pickaxes can be used as weapons and mining they might not of added them to the game for a weapon but it is still something you can use as a weapon
