If something is more expensive by "3 quarters", do you multiply by 3 or 4?

(Actual question 'cause apparently I did a maths question wrong due to confusion over this .-. I'm stupid ik)

You don tell multiply, you add - add 75 cents.
We don't even call twenty-five-cent coins 'quarters' here, yet that is what I immediately thought. Ugh.
Or, you'd multiply it by 1 and 3/4, or 7/4.

But my teachers and my class said it's multiply by 3
I said by 4 (because if you multiply by one it would be the same thing)
the original number was $25 btw .-.

It doesn't really matter what the original number is if we're just talking about HOW to work it out, not actually working it out.
As I understand it, 'more expensive by three-quarters' means '175% of the original price.' And neither of those works out to what I said, since multiplying by 3 would be 300% and by four would be 400% ._. So I don't know.

If it's MORE expensive by three quarters, then it's the original - a whole number, i.e. ONE - plus 3/4, which makes one and three-quarters. Expressed as a percentage, that's 175%.
That's all I did, express it as a percentage.
