Mongi stared at Benjy's mess of a room, shaking his head. "Benjy, I'm not sleeping in a place in which I have no idea where the floor is. Just... No. It's too dangerous," Mongi said. He walked over to the guest room, where Lauren had claimed as her room.
"Considering the guest room is the only other room besides the living room and basement, I think I'll crash with Lauren for a while. At least until you clean up your room." Mongi knocked on the door before walking in. He closed the door behind him, but Lauren pulled it open slightly to give Benjy a questioning look, before stalking back into the room.
Benjy turned back to his room. It wasn't that messy, just a ton of random possibly dangerous items lying on the ground. Benjy sighed. It was a mess. He started picking up everything when suddenly, he was pushed into a pile of clothes. He got up and glared at the culprit.
"Seriously? Where did you even come from?" Benjy looked down at the furry dog at his feet. A pair of arms appeared and picked up the pup. It was Mongi.
"Sorry. I hope you don't mind but when my parents kicked me out, they kicked out Wuufles too." Mongi pet the dog's head and got a friendly bark in return. He smiled at Benjy before promising to keep Wuufles in the guest room, then, while cooing at the pup, exited the room. Benjy shook his head and went back to spring cleaning even though it wasn't even Spring. He never understood that statement anyway.
After about an hour, Lauren called Benjy downstairs for dinner. As he walked down the stairs, Benjy could just barely see the light of the television. He shouted at Lauren. "What did I tell you about watching TV?!"
Benjy jumped down the last few steps before running to switch off the TV. He glared at Lauren, who simply got up to get a book to read, leaving the lasagna on the table. Benjy looked around for Mongi but couldn't see him. He called out, but was only answered by a cheerful string of woofs and laughter.
"God what is Mongi doing with that dog? Is he..." Benjy stifled a laugh before going upstairs to call Mongi to eat. When he knocked on the door, he also asked if Mongi was doing what he thought he was doing.
The door slammed open and Mongi screamed at Benjy. "NO. WHAT THE HELL. NO NO NOOOOOO. THAT'S WORST THAN, UM... COFFEE WITHOUT SUGAR. EW."
"I'm sorry but you sounded like you were—" Benjy was shut up by Mongi stomping out of the room, to the kitchen. "I'm sorry, okay?" Benjy half shouted, half laughed.
Downstairs, Lauren was trying to get Mongi to tell her why he and Benjy were yelling. Unfortunately, Mongi's mouth was zipped. Benjy, on the other hand, told the whole story, laughing in between sentences. Lauren tried to stifle her laughter but she failed quite miserably. Mongi mumbled something like, "It's not funny," but was ignored.
After Benjy was done with the dishes, he shut off the TV for the fourth time that day with a "Are you deaf or something?" before taking a hesitant Mongi's hand and leading him to his room.
"Mongi, I was invited to a party. They said I could bring someone, and I wanted you to come. Please?" Benjy said. Mongi flopped onto his bed and thought for a moment.
"What kind of party?" asked Mongi. Benjy shrugged.
"Just a party. Like, a highschool party I guess? Although it is for Halloween."
"Is there alcohol?"
"Yes."
"No." Mongi sat up and looked at Benjy. "Neither are you. I'm not dating an alcoholic, thanks."
"Where'd that idea sprout from?" Benjy lay on the bed, looking up at his ceiling. He'd thought about painting something, like the night sky, on it so he could admire it while he drifted off to sleep, but it never happened. Mongi rolled his eyes at him, as if he could sense what stupidity Benjy was thinking of.
"You're going to a highschool party with alcohol. You are 19. Safe to assume you interest in alcohol like all normal teens." Mongi lay next to Benjy and grabbed his hand, lightly squeezing it in a gesture of trust. "If you go, promise me you won't drink any alcohol."
Benjy paused. Could he? He hadn't had much, but on the few occasions he had, he'd loved the hot, sour taste of the stuff. It burned in his throat and made him feel warmth. Beside him, Mongi lay in sad silence, already knowing the answer.
The next day, Benjy awoke in the same position he'd been in last night. He remembered talking to Mongi about going to the party, but he couldn't remember anything else, much less falling asleep. He looked beside him, but didn't see Mongi. Maybe he'd left.
Benjy picked a crinkled shirt and a pair of jeans from his closet before heading to the bathroom for a shower to, as Lauren would say, awaken his mind. After that, Benjy skipped down the stairs to find Mongi and get something to eat.
He was very much surprised when he saw Cheesy lounging on the couch eating ice cream from...
"HEY!!" Benjy yelled, snatching the tub of ice cream from Cheesy, who glared right back at him.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Cheesy growled menacingly. Benjy feared for his life but still held his ground.
"I am taking back what is rightfully mine. I payed for this ice cream," Benjy stated. "Anyway, what are you doing in my house?"
Cheesy stared at the tub of ice cream while answering, "Lauren invited me here. Not sure why, but she did." She outstretched her hands and beckoned for Benjy to give her the ice cream. Benjy sighed and handed it to her. All of it was pretty much melted, anyway. But Cheesy still smiled and continued eating.
After a while, Lauren appeared at the foot of the stairs. She was startled by Cheesy's presence. "Is it already 12 p.m.?" she asked, sitting on the couch and taking a piece of fruit from the fruit bowl on the table.
"Correction: it's 2 p.m.," Cheesy said lazily, staring at her phone screen. Lauren shook her head, when suddenly she noticed Mongi wasn't present.
"Hey, where's Mongi?" Lauren looked towards Benjy for an answer, but just got a shrug and an "I don't know."
"Strange. He must've gone to work or something, assuming he has a job. Anyway, Benjy, you're going to Zach's party tonight, right? Cheesy wanted to tag along. She wasn't invited, but she needs Zacole pictures. For the shipping shrine, y'know?" Lauren said, picking an orange and struggling to open it.
"Yeah, sure. Zach did say I could bring along some friends," Benjy said. He grabbed the TV remote before Cheesy could, and then left to conceal it in his room. But before that, he said, "7 p.m. sharp. After that, I'm leaving, with or without you."
Cheesy turned to Lauren to ask about the remote thing. "He's paranoid about the electricity bills," was all Lauren said. Although, that probably was true. Cheesy offered to help her open the orange instead, but Lauren declined, putting it back and taking a slice of melon.
For the rest of the day, Cheesy stayed at Benjy's, only leaving once to change into a costume for the party, but coming back right after. While she was there, she and Lauren watched random cartoons on Lauren's iPad while arguing about who was better, Spongebob from, well, Spongebob, or Twilight from MLP. Cheesy personally liked Spongebob much better.
Benjy, however, spent his day at the local theme park, constantly getting bombarded by fans of his YouTube channel. He'd done a face reveal when he hit 10K subs, but now he was starting to regret it.
As 7 o' clock came by, Mongi was still nowhere to be seen. Benjy had texted him a few times, asking where he was, but no reply. In fact, they were all unread. Benjy started getting worried, although Cheesy kept reassuring him that Mongi's most likely fine.
"He's a good fighter, he'll be fine. Plus, his work schedule is f***ed up anyway, so I wouldn't find it strange if he was working late today," Cheesy waved it off like it was nothing. But to Benjy, it was worrying. The fact that Mongi hadn't bothered to even read his texts was suspicious.
As Cheesy shoved Benjy into the car, demanding to be taken to Zach's party, he sighed. Cheesy was probably right, and he was probably overthinking everything. Benjy started the engine of his car, but looked back at Cheesy for a moment. She was staring at her phone screen. She looked so calm, it was surprising. Maybe she knew mongi better than him.
Benjy shook the thought off. No, he knew mongi much better than Cheesy did. But still, the thought lingered in his mind while he drove to Zach's place, the only sound emmiting from inside the car coming from the radio.
"Oi, we're here," Benjy said as he pushed open the car door and looked at Zach's palace of a home. It wasn't that grand, really. But the decor made it look like a freaking castle for the undead. At the doorway, a male figure was waving at Benjy and Cheesy. Benjy couldn't tell who it was because they were dressed up, but Cheesy immediately recognised him.
"Oh, Ray, hi! Didn't know you were coming," Cheesy said, walking up to the front porch. "You look like a ♥♥♥♥ of a pirate. No offence."
"And you look like the ugliest... Wait, what are you?" Ray asked, not noticing as Benjy walked around him, into the house. Of course, Cheesy saw him. She took a second to register that Ray had said something.
"Oh, uh, I'm a unicorn," Cheesy pointed to the horn on the onesie she was wearing. "Anyway, I gotta go find someone, you can uh, stay here. Or whatever." Cheesy quickly rushed into the house, scouring the place for Benjy. She spotted him sitting by the dining table, chatting with Ash.
"Perfect," Cheesy whispered. She walked over to the back door and looked out the window at a bush, where Strelitzia was supposed to be waiting with Mongi. "Where is she?" Cheesy mumbled, pushing open the door annd walking out. Suddenly, she saw a glint of orangey-red near the forest behind Zach's house.
