Here we go, delving into the world of Harry Potter to find out one simple question - Why isn’t Harry an obscurial?
Note: This thread contains SPOILERS for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, (FBWFT) so if you plan on watching it and havent yet, dont read this. That all said and done, lets go!
So, an obscuriAL is a witch or wizard who has developed an obscuriOUS, a dark magic force that builds up inside of them and tipically bursts out around the age of ten, killing everyone around and causing hell for the obliviators. (Obliviators are people who work at the ministy of magic who remove memories muggles (or as americans say, no-maj’s) who have seen ir experienced magic. How do you develope an obscurious? Well, it happens when a young witch or wizard conceals their magic, and doesn’t use or learn to control it, normally when the magical child has been punished for magic, so it builds up. Sounds exactly like Harry, right?
Well - Yes. And no.
While typically the obscurial knows about their magic and purposefully contains it, Harry knew nothing of magic.
‘But Harry still didn’t use magic!’
Well, he did, multiple times, most notably being when dudley falls in the snake enclosure, but this happens often, like when Patunia cut Harry’s hair ridiculously short exept the fringe and the next day it’s grown back, or when Harry was at muggle school being chased my dudley and his friends and he teleported on the roof, so he DID use magic, just not knowingly, so no, he isn’ (thank god) an obscurial.
Thanks for reading ^~^
