Again Neville just needed confidence in the earlier books. Think about how he had changed by the end of Deathly Hallows.
As for Leo, why does what Hephaestus do make a difference? Half the time in the myths the gods were ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the goddesses but that doesn't make Rick Riordan's modern demigods the same does it?
