Why can't we have more control over our own threads; like deleting them or removing comments from them?

I agree on deleting threads especially if you have changed your opinion on the subject of a thread.
However deleting comments is the worst idea ever. People would just exploit that to censor others from speaking criticism, and would only keep comments of praise.
