Thread Lock?

Why do we always need thread locks for when a question has been answered? It's kinda a waste of time.
Can i get the reasons why threads need to be locked because sometimes i feel like it's not necessary?
Also, can only staff reply to this, at this point I don't trust the other players to answer this correctly.

It is to prevent people from spamming threads or to relive a thread already answered, It also help us knowing if someone already answered the thread. Plus, When we do 'new threads' the answered one shows the small lock/or arent showing up because they are locked. This is why we lock threads
