Hey all, happy new hijri year, or islamic new year, to every muslim in the brokenlens community, today i wanted to inform you all abt this:

On September 24, 622, the prophet Muhammad completes his Hegira, or “flight,” from Mecca to Medina to escape persecution. In Medina, Muhammad set about building the followers of his religion—Islam—into an organized community and Arabian power. The Hegira would later mark the beginning (year 1) of the Muslim calendar.

Just like the calendar most ppl follow, muslims have their calendar that we are proud of, there’s 12 months in the muslim calendar:

1. Muharram (the first month)
2. Safar
3. Rabi’ al awal (the month where prophet muhammad was born)
4. Rabi’ al akhr
5. Jumada al awal
6. Jumada al akhr
7. Rajab (the 3 holy months are rajab shaaban and ramadan)
8. Shaaban
9. Ramadan (the most holiest month for fasting and praying and good deeds)
10. Shawal (the month of eid!)
11. Zu il ka’ada
12. Zu il hija (the month where people start their
Pilgrimage)

Today marks in the muslim calendar the 1st of muharram 1444, the year 1444 is like, much like 2022 and 2023 and stuff, 1444 refers that 1444 years ago, the prophet completes his hegira from mecca to medina, this happened 1444 years ago.

It is said that this year, 1444 is a golden year, a golden number, hopefully it is indeed, and may god bless you all :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic:

This was interesting to learn, thanks for educating those of us who didn't know! If you don't mind me asking, how do Muslims observe the Islamic new year? As in do you do any activities to celebrate it?

Nice question ray’d shadow legends, basically we observe with the moon, the moon’s movements and shapes are how we observe the muslim calendar, we have muslim astronomers, and they are the ones who watch the moon and decide weither or not it is the first day of ramadan, or any month in general, as for the activities, in new hijri year we don’t really do anything, we just visit our loved ones and stuff, altho in eid, theres a lotta stuff, we make some delicious stuff, and give money or called eidi for little children, and some good deeds and stuff, AND we ofc visit our siblings and loved ones
