BrokenLens has always had a problem with the community and its a wonder why the old hate the new, and the new hate whatever the community hates.
The reason why BrokenLens isn’t a very successful server is because of popularity. This server RUNS on popularity. If you didn’t notice, most people are people with a lot of likes, making it far harder for many to succeed in this environment. I have already joked about how 20,000 people have join the forums my a**, the community is only made of 100 people.
The problem is the great power it has. We basically judge people based on personality. It’s how Spike stayed famous a long time, most people saw how many likes he had and it gave them an idea of how likeable he was. People judge on how many friends you have, mostly why most old people are considered gods because they had made with staff, even though they had probably done it awhile ago.
The responsibility however is the main issue. It seems like no one has the balls to argue back if they think something is wrong. If you’re popular, you can do a lot more things and basically get more rights. You have a minor hand when arguing (which is kind of why most people always agree with staff)(not saying staff do a bad job just if they do something it seems like I am unable to question their work ethic). Spike only decreased in popularity when staff broke down on him, and everyone treated him like s***. Mostly when I said something about Warrior making fun of him, she merely ignored me, for apparently I’m a f***o who has no f**** brain. When Kendra however came everyone shut up, and easily you can tell how much more popular she is than me.
I feel like this is the reason why Minecraft decided not to make BrokenLens a featured server. It’s not welcome to new players and it’s harder to make friends then (the boat that aids you when you are stuck at sea with no floatation device and with your original floation device broken, thanks Hazard).
It just seems like popularity is the reason this server has been struggling.
I mostly agree with everything you wrote.
Like other said before I dont think what you said is the reason why minecraft didnt make brokenlens a featured server.I honestly think they dont even think that far and only judge servers on their popularity and if they have the reguierments needed when deciding which server to feature.
But its just a little theory that you put at the end so lets not focus on that.
Its true the community isnt as big as it seems sometimes.I mean we do have 4k people on the server on average but on the forums we really have like...I would not say only 100 but like 250 active people.
And some of those people truly just get more rights and power when they have many likes or followers which really is a bad thing.Espically in disciussions some people are like:’Oh that person has 4000 messages he has to know what he is talking about’or’That member is a staff he must be right so I wont even dare to show my opinion or he will ban me’.
Like what in the world? If a staff ban you for that kind of reason he will just get demoted by vertx immediatelly.
I even watched how I reacted like that myself sometimes. For example warrior once quoted a post that I made, said how I was wrong and I answered her like:’Oh yea sorry for that I am so stupid’ like she would be almighty and I have to excuse me everytime I say something wrong.
A problem about they community I would add to this list is the big amount of tryharders who want to become staff on brokenlens.
I dont really know why this is such a big thing on brokenlens but I guess its because we dont have that much members on the forums and it just seems more realistic to become staff on brokenlens then on other servers.
The problem about that is most of them just help others or are friendly because they want to be staff-not because they actually like or want to inprove the server. If they get rejected they just leave the forums forever.
They also always agree with staff whatever they say just to become friends with them and mabey increase their chances of becoming staff.Which is also bad since they will never learn to show their own opinion and will forever stay ‘staffs pet’.
