sorry for the delay, here's the finale to my series : ))
The monster raced up the stairs, ripping the carpet beneath it with each step. It arrived on the third floor and quickly turned to the right of the staircase.
It let out a shriek and bounded towards the lab room. It broke through the wall with its horns, then shook the wood off of itself. It sniffed the air, taking in all of the scents around it.
It smelled the rusted lab cages, the old wooden desks, the toxic chemicals that no longer existed, but the stench still filled the air.
Without hesitation, the monster took the key from its mouth and examined the cage for the keyhole. It spotted it, then put the key in it. Using its teeth, it turned the key until it heard a click.
The room started shaking, and shelves collapsed and old lab bottles fell to the ground and shattered. The monster steadied itself and clung to the wall beside it.
The wall at the end of the room started to fall open. The stone pieces crumbled and fell to reveal a hidden room.
The lab room stopped shaking, but dust was all around, making things hard to see.
The creature sneezed and shook itself. The dust began to settle and the hidden room became visible.
The monster bounded towards it and snatched the bottle which lay in it.
The bottle was filled with a pink-ish liquid that bubbled and steam arose from it. The monster admired it from within its claws. It ran its talons along the tip of the bottle, then with a finishing look, it tipped the bottle towards its mouth and drank it.
Suddenly, the monster's form began to change, its horns shrank and it's spine cracked and reformed. It's snout sucked back into its face, and started to resemble a nose. It's claws turned to hands, it's fur turned to skin, and it's ears shrank.
Before long, the creature transformed into a young man.
He fell to the ground, coughing and wheezing. His eyes stung and his ears rang.
The group rushed into the room and stopped dead when they saw the man.
"IT'S A ZOMBIE!!!" venus screamed.
"No…" Ben was confused, "it's the man i saw in my dream."
Griz laughed, "yeah right! This place is hundreds of years old and you think this man would still be alive! Ha!"
Ben slowly approached the man. He held out his hand and exhaled slowly.
The man turned around and was frightened by the sight of Ben. He stumbled backwards and pushed himself against a desk. His eyes looked fearful.
"Hey, we won't hurt you," ben comforted the man, "we just wanna know how you got here."
The man gulped and wiped his eyes. He looked at ben, and then the rest of the group, then back at ben.
The man nodded.
"Its a long story…" the man started.
When the man finished, everyone was in shock. Information buzzed in their brains. Confusion and awe swept over them like a wave.
"You experimented on animals?" Addy blurted.
"Yes, it's true...sometimes the animals would turn into small statues. Sometimes into liquid. Only a few were successful experiments. I knew that something bad might happen, but i never expected myself to turn into an animal. I only thought i would gain some of their DNA. I figured that i would be able to hear and see better...not turn into that horrible creature," the man's face was pale. He exhaled softly and extended his fingers, as if he wanted to make sure they were still there.
The group was quiet for a while. They felt pity for the man, but also anger. The creature had attacked Rose and Addy, and injured them. Addy and Rose were still unable to walk, so Summer and Venus helped them.
Gracious had regained the strength in her legs, but she still limped everywhere. Each step felt like sharp needles piercing through her skin, but she always kept her mouth shut. She didn't like others worrying about her.
"What did it feel like?" Cookie whispered, "to be the creature?"
The man sat down in a chair beside him. He ran his trembling fingers through his hair.
"It felt as if you were stuck inside of a movie. You had a conscience and you knew everything that was happening, but you weren't the one controlling everything. I was stuck inside of the creature. I felt temptations and impulses to do things I wouldn't normally do. I tried to stop myself, but i just couldn't," he stopped abruptly.
Capitaine frowned, "what is it?"
The man stood up, shaking violently and whimpering. He cupped his hands to his face and began to sob.
Ben and Capitaine put the arm around the man, whispering and calming him.
"I have no family left," the man said through shaky breaths, "everyone i know is gone."
"Its okay," ben comforted.
The group was silent once again.
"Hey, not to wrap up this....whatever this is, but can we get outta here? Like, seriously, I am done with this place," recoloured remarked.
"Definitely. Let's go," Sphynx led the group out of the room and down the stairs.
Once everyone was at the bottom floor, the group pushed open the huge front doors and rushed out of the mansion.
"FREEDOM!!" venus yelled.
Everyone yelped and cheered.
Ben was still with the man, walking slowly side-by-side together.
"Don't you wanna go? This place has caused you too many painful memories. Let's go enjoy the fresh air," Ben started running ahead, then ushered the man to join him.
The man was hesitant, but then caught up to Ben.
The friends ran away from the mansion, each step making the ancient building even harder to see. Eventually, the mansion was gone.
The mansion creaked one last time, the last time it ever would. It was almost as if it had finally settled into the earth. Almost as if, it was finally satisfied.
I hope you guys liked the series, im pretty sure ill do more as i really enjoyed this : ) I hope you enjoyed the mystery aswell, it was fun to come up with! Love y'all, have a great day <33
