Part 5 of the whole series and part 1 of the grand finale.
A man entered a lab room. He cleared his throat and his pounding feat echoed through the hallways. He brushed the dust off of his shirt and began to look around the room.
“Son, I hope you have not disobeyed me. This confidential lab room makes me think you have gone against my orders. I am very disappointed,” The man stated.
A deep growl rippled through the room. Something appeared in the corner of the room. It scratched the wall and turned around. It let out a shrill and revealed it’s glistening fangs.
The man screamed and ran towards the exit door, but it had locked behind him. The monster ran after him, fangs bared and eyes glaring. It stopped when it reached him. The monster towered over the man, like a lion compared to an ant. It growled one last time, before devouring the man whole.
Over the course of time, each group found another group and they began to travel together. They did this until everybody was in one big group again.
The group entered a dining hall on the 2nd floor, so they could all discuss what they had found. Cookie and Capitaine went first, then Ben and Sphynx, then Summer and Addy, and so forth. Each group tried to describe in great detail what had happened to them.
“Wait guys, there’s one thing that was in most of our stories. The monster. The monster that attacked Rose. The monster that chased Cookie and Capitaine. The monster that Venus, Gracious, and Recoloured found in the secret room,” Ben started connecting the dots.
“And the monster I saw in my vision,” Ben said, thinking out loud, “It was a man who was experimenting on animal DNA and experimented on himself, but something went wrong, and he became-”
“A monster,” Addy finished.
“And the lab where he experimented on himself is the lab that we found,” Summer commented.
“Hold on a minute,” Griz laughed, “are you saying that there’s only one? Cause there can’t be just one, Recoloured, Venus, and Griz saw the dead body of one in a secret room,” Griz shook his head.
Ben thought for a moment. So much information was shooting through his brain that it was hard to concentrate. He took a deep breath, and cleared his mind.
“There must have been more,” he started, “in my dream, the young man was also experimenting on animals. Sometimes the failures dissolved, or were turned into small stone statues, like the ones Griz found. Maybe the successful mutation was the dead one that Venus found,” Ben finished.
But why was it dead? Ben thought.
“Well,” Griz picked up a vase and looked at it, then the group, “I for one, think we should get the heck out of here before we all end up as dinner.”
“Yup! Me too!” Cookie said.
“Me three!” Rose said.
“Then it’s settled. Let’s go. Now,” Griz started to head out of the dining room. Everyone except Ben followed him. Capitaine was the last one out the door, but he looked back and realized that Ben wasn’t following.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Capitaine asked. He walked over to Ben, who was sitting on the dining table. Capitaine hopped up next to him.
Ben was silent for a minute, just sitting with his thoughts.
“Something isn’t adding up,” Ben scratched his head.
“What do you mean?” Capitaine questioned.
“When Rose was attacked, the monster clearly didn’t intend to kill her. It very likely could’ve, but didn’t. The monster doesn’t want to kill us...it seems like it’s looking for something,” Ben’s eyes darted towards a key in Capitaine’s pocket.
“What’s that?” Ben stuttered. He began to get nervous, as his mind was linking pieces together. Ben remembered a key-shaped hole by the testing chamber in his dream.
“I don’t know, just an old key I found when a bookshelf fell on me,” Capitaine took the key out of his pocket and examined it. It was gold, with a lion-shaped figure at the top. It was very dusty and banged up, but probably still worked.
“That’s not a normal key…” Ben started to panic, “we need to get out, now.” ben grabbed Capitaine’s arm and started running. Suddenly, they heard a screech, and the mansion began to shake. They saw the monster running at them from the end of the hallway at full speed.
“RUN!” Ben screamed. They both practically tripped down the stairs and barreled straight into the rest of the group.
Ben and Capitaine shot up and screamed, “RUN!” The group fled as fast as they could. Addy was still on the floor, dazed, but she saw the monster and screamed. It sunk its teeth into her leg and dragged her away. She shrieked in pain and tears filled her eyes.
The group turned around and saw the monster dragging Addy away.
“Addy!” Venus wailed. The group ran after the creature who was pulling Addy into another room. Addy screamed as she was pulled into the kitchen. The monster slammed the doors shut and stalked towards Addy. It sniffed her, and growled. It stomped away from her and pushed the door open again. It’s red, beady eyes scanned the group in front of it, and Capitaine’s key caught it’s eye. It roared and charged at him. Before Capitaine could get away, it ripped the key out of Capitaine’s pocket and stormed away. Before disappearing up the stairs, it stared them all in the eye, then nodded at them and ran away.
