The End of BrokenLens Servers

Why would you even ask that? Vertx deserves all the contributions after all his sacrifice for the server.

I wish everyone all the best with their future endeavours, especially Vertx and the Brokenlens Staff team. Your commitment to keep this server going has been noted by everyone and we all appreciate the time and effort you have devoted to the community. Although, it is a sad ending, I am sure we will cherish all the memories made from the past and hopefully bigger and better opportunities will come across all of us!

Hello everybody,

Today, I come with more bad news for BrokenLens.

Following up on https://brokenlens.xyz/forums/threads/brokenlens-needs-your-support.140110/
our campaign back in December was able to keep the gears turning around here for a few more months, and for that I thank everyone who helped out. A special thanks goes for those who sent in donations as well, it was an incredibly generous act and some of you single handedly covered multiple of our hosting bills.

Unfortunately though, during the past 2 months, BrokenLens only generated negative revenue yet again, there hasn't been enough sales to cover all of our next hosting bills even after exploring cheaper options. we do need quite a lot of resources to keep the network up and running.

You also may have noticed we haven't been pushing out updates as quick as we did in the past, and honestly, part of the reason is the lack of motivation, perspective and joy that I, Gabriel, once had working for BrokenLens.
I personally have been feeling really unwell both mentally and physically with the situation we are going through, be it all the burn out, be it the loss of revenue and subsequently the inability of keeping both myself and the server up even after investing my own funds in it, be it our dwindling player counts through the years, be it the unfair competition we've gathered after featured servers were introduced (In Mojang's own words: there isn't a process of application to become a featured server, Mojang simply decides who they will choose to become featured. - essentially deciding which servers succeed and which servers fail. featured servers not only have access to a broader audience, but also, among other things, access to essential tools for steadily keeping up with new game updates. Let me ask you guys, is this fair competition?). this whole situation has been dragging on for years and years, and the thing is: it has not been easy.

When we officially launched back in January 14th, 2016, we were an immediate success, gathering around 50 thousand registered players in just one week. this was even before we had a build team and developed a way for players to seamlessly switch between servers - if you tapped on an NPC it would kick you out and show you the direct IP address for the game servers. we pushed massive updates daily and it turned out to be our most successful year ever peaking at nearly 15k concurrent players, sometimes even more.
today, we sit at 12.3 million registered players from almost every single corner of the world, and this is a huge achievement for us.

Along the years, we formed the most wonderful staff team we could have ever asked for, our builders, staff managers, admins, moderators, helpers, everyone in the staff team is extremely talented at what they do, and we couldn't have gone as far as we did without them. they made this server possible in so many ways I can't even express in just words, and I'm extremely proud of calling this team the best one in the world.
If you are a BrokenLens player, I'm sure they all have touched your life in some way or another, even if you don't realize how yet. And I would like to thank them for everything they've done and accomplished here, from the bottom of my heart.

I'm sure at this point you already know what I'm about to announce. and it's something that makes me extremely sad both for the staff team and the players. I never wanted to have to take this decision.
But, BrokenLens cannot keep itself afloat anymore, and I have to start thinking of my future too. I need to move on and find a different job to pay for my bills. I need to start thinking of my mental and physical health at some point. and unfortunately, the only choice I have moving forward, is to close the BrokenLens servers permanently :(

This has not been an easy decision for me, and it's been a source of uncountable sad emotions during the past few days. I know some of you will be sad, and some of you will be mad, but finally, I've come to the conclusion it has to happen.

April 16th, 2022 is the day, at 11:59PM EST.

As the clock ticks midnight, all BrokenLens servers will be switched off forever. and if something good comes out of all of it, I hope it's the good lasting memories and friendships we've all made in there through the years. We've all learned something in this long journey, and BrokenLens might have failed as a network, but if we were able to affect your life positively in some way, in the end, our mission will have been a success.

Only the servers are gonna be affected by this decision, the forums and the app will remain online for as long as possible so our collective history can be preserved. and we will be removing our filters to allow everyone to recommend different servers and discuss any Minecraft and off-topic related content here for the foreseeable future. feel free to recommend new forum sections as well.

That is all,
I wish all the staff members and contributors good luck in your future endeavours,
And thank you everyone for supporting us till the end.

damm it
Hello everyone
well i was not expecting this today kind of feeling sad and shocked that where i usually play on this server back on 2016 in 2gb ram phone lagging and hanging. I was interested in to Mobwars games because it was one best minigames which i played. and has far too many good memories on this server, i didn’t expect it to be so soon.
once coming to this realization just this year, maybe we all had more time to continue playing on this server. I make a lot of friends also in server, forums, discord,.

If anybody needs anything or wants to keep in contact. MY DISCORD NAME= ERROR50800#8078

AT LAST I HOPE THIS SERVER COME BACK AGAIN VERY SOON.

REQUEST FOR VERTX.SIR *( AND I HOPE VERTX SIR THAT HE GET WELL SOON )

thank you for everything brokenlens, truly. I have so many memories here since I first joined and made my first friendships in late 2016 (one which I still have to this day and she’s my bestest friend) this all thanks to you. I am very sad to see the server go… but i will always truly be grateful for this servers existence. I will always treasure the good memories. thank you so so much for all your guys’ hard work over the years till this point. <3

It's so disgusting. I expected everything, but not this. I've even come to terms with the fact that my favorite game mode has been removed, but...

Ah, nvm.

if this is really "the end", then I want to thank this server for meeting these wonderful people who changed my life and became my good friends -

@Kimiko_Kim
You were literally the first person I met on this server. I thought that you would only be a friend for a week, but you have become the great honor of my life. When all my friends left me, you were the only person in my life who supported me.
@emregurcan3422
Omg, I remember our meeting like it was yesterday! I won't talk very much because it will take 955959 hours to talk about you. Therefore, I will say that you are a wonderful friend who was able to greatly change my thinking and make me look at things differently.
@shawty69
even though you were banned forever and you will not see it, I want to say that on this list you were the most able to change me <3

And my other friends - @Maryam360. @heartlxss @meowsi @Farida

Thank u for this people
This is the sadest I can't hold it- thx to u savoii for being such a good friend to me<3.

Heya! :P

I think I speak for everyone here when I say you gave us a special place to be ourselves, a home where we didn't have one. Like Pine said, don't think for a minute that you failed your job or anything because you gave us so much more. You gave us friends when real life was lonely, you gave us fun when we were going through really miserable times and you gave me hope.

Before I came here, I couldn't trust people because I'd experienced so much rejection and abandonment irl. My heart was pretty cold and I treated people nastily - I only played pvp to vent my anger and strengthen my sense of independence. But you blessed me with friends who never gave up on me, friends who cared about me and friends I actually wanted to be with and love. This community has always been full of such love and warmth and I'm honoured I was even able to stumble in on it.

Regrettably, I was trying to move on and pretend this place didn't exist because what kind of nineteen year old becomes attached to internet friends and an online space? But this place has a special place in my heart and I don't think I'll ever forget it. Don't forget my embarrassing promise, by the way! I said I wanted to write stories and songs inspired by BrokenLens and the community you built up here.

You didn't just impact my life; you've impacted me as a person. If people call me kind, it's mostly due to you and this community. You taught me how to care about others and what it meant to create a safe space for them. Even though I'm painfully shy irl, I've realised I want to create that same space for others. I want to be a warm place for them the way you were for us. Thank you so much for all my memories and for being the kind of person who makes me want to believe in my future and create it. I can't express enough the adoration and admiration I have for you and everything you've built :laugh:

i dont use forums nor do i associate myself with many people on here anymore, but i cant believe how brokenlens has created so much character in me. i hope everyone of you do well with whatever career you pursue in, and may brokenlens finally rest !

This is so unfortunate... Hope everyone is doing fine. Brokenlens will be always remembered and stays on the hearts of those who truly loves it. But hey, if a door closes, a new window would open right? Who knows, maybe one day it will come back remastered! But right now, i think it is time to say farewell to the server we once, and forever loved.

Do you know what, my friend?
I understand you very well, and I know how hard you worked and lost things anyway!
I live in Iran and I can say that I was many times more involved in politics than you.
I'm really sad that I was born in this country and because of this, a lot of things are expensive and hard to get here, if I was in the US or anywhere else, know that I supported you in many ways.
But I'm not in the US or its neighbor, I'm sorry the server wants to reach its endpoint, I have no power to help, except a message
I can understand that you have to pay a lot of salaries, your expenses and in short, your life is more important than a server, so go and live and I hope you get a very, very good job.
