(This is only the prologue)
Bethanie looked up at the stars in the sky. "So pretty..." she whispered to herself. She felt someone tapped her shoulder. Without turning to look who it was, she said, "Hello. How may I help you?"
A voice replied, "Do you like the stars?" The voice was cold, dark, and sent shivers down Bethanie's spine.
"Um," Bethanie replied. She didn't know whether to be honest with this stranger or tell a lie to him. In the end, Bethanie decided to tell the truth. Besides, there's no rule against telling someone you liked stars. Bethanie continued to gaze at the stars fter she said her reply, too scared to look at who was behind her. The person noticed Bethanie wasn't turning around, so he walked to Bethanie's side. "Don't hide from me. Please. I just need help.." What Bethanie heard was nothing like the original person's voice. Bethanie heard a soft, sweet, melodious voice, like a little girl's voice. Bethanie looked next to her. A little girl, about seven or so, was standing there. Gazing at the stars. But she looked dead serious.
"Um, what just happened?" Bethanie asked the little girl. She was confused. "Oh, well, that dark voice you heard? That was my dad. He's really creepy. The only thing I like about him is that he knows a lot about stars. I think he's called an astronomer or something."
"Oh, ok. Why'd he ask me is I liked stars, though?" I questioned. "And why did you say you need help?" I could she the little girl's eyes tear up as I asked the second question.
"My parents are planning to sell me off to the black market."
