The Attack
Several Trident Spear-fighters flew over the mountains. The fighters, sent from the Peacekeeper, were the best of the Trident line. The fighters were sleek, and had a rear-facing machine gun. The swept back wings, at 45 degree angles, made them fast, and the S-foils could release excess heat from the guns, and slow the fighter down to make it more agile in battle. They had stealth capabilities, bristled with machine guns, and had missiles and flares. For this new type of fighter, the best pilots were picked out from special forces teams and the Aquanonian ranks. These pilots were the best of the best, trained to stay calm in battle and fight till the last breath.
Behind them, was a new air-to-ground gunship. The gunship, which looked like most other gunships designed to carry troops, lacked large doors, and instead, carried several large machine guns which could be pulled into the fuselage. The gunship could fire flares, drop bombs, release missiles, and bring doom upon the enemy. For this reason, the pilots and crew often called it the “Doombringer”.
“This is Holocron 1, standing by.” the lead pilot said.
“This is command, reading ya’all.” Commander Bakura replied.
“This is the Doombringer, standing by.” the lead pilot of the gunship reported in.
“Ya’all know what to do.”
“Yessir.” the lead pilot replied.
“Sir, the enemy base has launched A-39 fighters at our attack group. There’s about 50 of them.” a controller said to Commander Bakura, in the command of the Peacekeeper.
“We have about 20 of our trident fighters. This’ll really be a test of technology and skill. All pilots, engage.” Commander Bakura mused.
The trident fighters formed up and barreled straight into the A-39 fighters. The Trident fighters fired their machine guns at the enemy ships, most of the A-39s not able to maneuver out of the way fast enough. The Trident fighters broke up, and then doubled back, all of the Tridents taking on other ships.
“Locked on. Firing.” a pilot said, as he fired a salvo of high-powered lasers at an A-39. The A-39’s gunner turned it’s gun back to fire, but a laser hit the engine and the fighter spiraled down into the ground.
“There’s two on me.” another Trident fighter said, as it got chased around by two 39s. The Trident fighter dived down through the mountains. It swerved through peaks and snow, trying to shake the fighters. While doing so, the automated turret on the back of the fighter fired at the 39s behind it. One 39 couldn’t handle the damage, and crashed down. The other went faster to catch up to the Trident fighter, but it went headfirst into a cliff-face. The Trident fighter, mostly left unscathed, pulled up and rejoined the battle.
During all this chaos, the Doombringer made it’s way to the enemy base. Suddenly, twelve A-39’s came behind it. The gunner on the Doombringer, stationed at several computers, activated the numerous turrets on the Doombringer. The turrets fired, but did not stop several of the fighters from firing missiles.
“Firing flares.” the weapons manager of the Doombringer yelled, over the sound of the wind in the hangar bay.
The Doombringer, from the back, released a hail of flares, lighting up the sky like a fireworks show. The missiles exploded into the flares. Some of the A-39s flew straight into the flares, some taking damage and crashing down upon the mountains. The weapons manager turned off the flares, and the remaining 10 fighters formed back up to attack the Doombringer.
The pilots of the Doombringer looked back, then looked at each other, and nodded.
“Activating the chargers.” the copilot said as the pilot pressed several buttons, and then the copilot pulled a leaver.
Two pods on the sides of the Doombringer activated, sending invisible waves through the air. The fighters nearest to the Doombringer suddenly stopped midair, then fell to the ground, as if their engines had been shut off. A fighter pulled back out of range and fired a missile. The missile shot straight towards the Doombringer, but unusually, no flare system was activated. The missiles suddenly exploded midair, as the invisible waves hit it and ignited it’s fuel tanks. The Doombringer’s turrets then locked onto the final A-39 tailing it, and fired, The A-39 swerved to the right, flying away as machine gun fire targeted it. The A-39 disappeared off the radar.
“One down, 23 more to go.” one pilot reported as he shot down a fighter back at the dogfight.
“Holocron squadron, you got company. Several 7-YHs are headed your way.” Commander Bakura informed.
20 7-YH special forces fighters screamed into the dogfight, attacking the new Trident fighters furiously. The Trident fighters fought back just as hard.
“Firing a missile.” a pilot said as a single missile was fired from the missile bay of the fighter. It screeched towards a 7-YH, and it tried it’s best to shake it off, but the Aquanonian missile eventually found it’s target. The special forces fighters were taken out, and the rest of the A-39s retreated back to their base.
But they only found more destruction. The Doombringer had started to attack the enemy base, raining lasers upon the soldiers trying to use turrets against it.
“Holocron squadron, we have incoming.” the pilot of the Doombringer said as the A-39s advanced upon it.
“Go, go, go!” several soldiers on the ground yelled, as evacuation vehicles were prepared to escape from the fortress as the Doombringer and the A-39s engaged above them.
Having taken no losses, the Trident fighters roared into battle, ripping fighters to pieces and dropping bombs upon the base. The Doombringer, exhausted of bombs and missiles, headed back to the Peacekeeper, and with the help of the Trident fighters, several LAVs accompanied by two W10-CTs advanced on the base. THe soldiers hiding in bunkers underground were taken as prisoners and the base was left in ruins.
