/Chapter 24/
October 24, 1920
“Well, that’s that.” In just of a blink of an eye, FireFox was sunken into the bottom of the lake into frozen water and was never to be seen again. I didn’t know what to expect next since the Halloween killer can pull up anything at this point in time. What I knew was that I didn’t have a lot of time left before I was next on the list.
My mind was all over the place and didn’t feel like I needed to do anything right now so I did my job and sat near an ice cube as I watched FireFox ice cube drown into the bottom of the ocean. “Hey, Icy!” Dog waved at me as she came to sit next to me. I was in no mood in talking to anyone but if I didn’t talk to anyone, I knew the situation inside of me will get worse so it didn’t hurt to try.
“Hey,” I said in a rocky mood as I went back viewing across the lake of the land. All I thought at this point in time is a few things. One, how does the Halloween killer keep on finding us? It feels like no matter where we go, the Halloween killer already plans on where in the world we are. Second, Many people are dying beyond my sight so that, making me even more heartbroken then I already am.
Lastly, I needed a plan to think on how in the world we’re going to get across the frozen lake without getting turn into an iceberg. On the side of that, Dog can sniff out that something was going on in my mind; making her curious and wanted to know what was going on.
“Is everything okie Icy?” She asked me as she made herself comfy. I didn’t feel the need to tell her what was going on but as I already said before, if I don’t tell someone about it, the situation inside of me will just build up.
“I guess, not really,” I said to her without looking at her. Now Dog knew from the fact that something is going on inside of me and begged me to tell her what was going on. “Nothing really,” I told her, telling her in a mood that I didn’t want to say. Dog suspected that I wasn’t in the mood in talking to people so she said, “Oh, ok. If you need anything, I’ll be here for you,” and left me in the iceberg I was sitting on.
“Hey, move along you people!” Apparently, Mos was shouting at people just because they were lazing off on the ideas and nobody wanted to give him any ideas on how in the world we’re going to get across the lake. This got me thinking a lot about Mos's situation. First of all, Mos was getting mad since nobody was even trying to help him give him ideas.
Second of all, Everyone out here was freezing cold and probably about to die in a few days from now so one more reason for Mos to get even more frantic then he already is. Lastly out of all this, I felt bad for him cause I wasn’t helping him on the idea part. All I was doing in looking towards the Antarctica tower and doing absolutely nothing at all.
Finally, I saw Mos giving up and heading towards my direction. I felt like he was going to scream at me for doing nothing like the rest of them but I was surprised to see that he didn’t exactly do so as I was thinking of. “This is irritating.” He said to me as he threw his winter hat towards the ground.
I could tell that he was really not in the mood from what he was in but I thought I can make him feel a little better. “Hey, Mossy,” I said to him in a sweet voice. But he wasn’t buying it on calling him in that voice. “I really don’t know any more at this point,” Mos said to me as he sat next to me.
He took out his compass which looked like it was made from the 1980 and pointed in towards what looked like a half moon in the sky. He moved the composed for quite some time until he started to curse at it and threw it into the lake and froze in a blink of an eye. “I HATE EVERYTHING!” He yelled towards everyone. Everyone froze in their sight, including me.
Nobody dared to say a word, expect Neko. “Maybe you should watch your behavior Mr.bossy boy!” Neko said as she waved her finger towards her face. Now I knew the minute Neko said that; Mos was going to give the loudest, most disrespectful responded back. “Maybe you should go to hell Ms.Lozey person.” And from there, he left her with the reddest face he could possibly have.
Now I gotta say, I was scared to death even though this fight wasn’t about me. “Disrespectful person,” Neko said as she shook her head towards him. Now I wasn’t planning into getting into what Mos and Neko were in so I prefer to stay out of it and mind my own business because that's the right thing to do in this situation.
A few minutes later, I spotted Mos making what looked like some kind of blueprint in his hands. I got very curious so I headed towards him to see what was he planning to do. “Hey, Mos. Whatcha doing?” I said to him with curiosity. Mos turned around as he was wearing a snow mask on him. Actually, now that I think of it, was is really snow mask? I really didn’t know cause that was the first thing that came into my head when I saw Mos.
“Oh hey, Icy! Oh, nothing much. Since people didn’t bother to give me their ideas into this project, I decided to go solo and build this ark boat and flow it into the lake and towards the other side of the lake." Now when I heard that, I thought that it was going to be impossible, especially if he was working alone. Who knew how long that will take to build.
“Mos?” I said to him as he counted to work on the bottom of the ark boat. “Yes Icy?” He said to me as he spat some of the snow that was in his mouth out. “I did some research about this whole ark thing and according to my calculations, it will take you about 3 weeks to build that ark and we don’t have 3 weeks Mr.Mos.”
I got scared for a second when Mos dropped his nails to the ground, got up and headed towards where I was standing like a man that was about to fight someone. “M...Mos! You’re scaring me!” I said in a baby voice. I felt like I was about to fight someone for no good reason to come.
In fact, this exactly reminds me back in high school when some idiots will start a fight in the lunchroom for a stupid reason like “Someone ate my cookie.” And just for that, they’ll start a fight towards that. I mean I gotta be fair here, everything in my high school was stupid, even the teachers.
I’m surprised enough that I know most of the basic stuff on how to survive out here, to be honest. Heck, I probably learned more stuff in elementary school and middle school then I did back in high school. Well, in my point of view, I guess that's my problem back then that I had to deal with it every single day but eh, I don’t have that problem anymore.
What I do have is a real life problem with no teachers around to help me so this was my problem right now. I looked around to see where every single unless person was hanging around in this deadly illness that was happening. “Mos!” I said right in front of him. “Yes?” He said as he went back into building his ark. “This job is way to big for you, that being said, you’ll need all the help you’ll get. Which will be me.”
Mos came out once again, giving out the biggest sigh out here. “Do you really think you got what it takes to build an ark? Remember this, back in high school, I won 8 trophies on the best builders contest and the other people couldn’t even make stick figures on a paper.” He said to me with those devil eyes.
I could tell that he was very serious about this project and wanted the best people into building this ark. “If it takes that much then… IM IN!” I said to him while I jumped into the air. Mos gave me those 1900's smiles as he said, “Okie c’mon girl, we got a lot of work ahead of us.” And from there, we started to build the ark until sunset came around.
6 hours later
“It took a few hours but we built it in 6 hours!” Mos said proudly. “We did do it!” I said in pride. Our hands were killing us so we went to take a break as everyone started to crowd around the ark we had made. ‘Isn’t it a beauty?” Dog said. “Indeed it is!” I said to her.
Dog went into the boat and said out loud, “I'm the queen of the world!” She said while laughing. People smiled at her as they admired the boat around them. “Okie Dog, you can come down now!” Mos laughed.
Just as Dog was getting off, a gust of dark wind flew by us hard as the rock that was holding the ark in place felt as the boat started to roll by itself; rolling Dog inside of the ark also. “DOG!” I yelled.
The boat was rolling faster than a race car until it crashed into a snowy rock, making dog fly into the air and landing into the class water out here. “NO!” I yelled. Everyone gasped as they saw Dog turning into an ice cube. “I can’t believe this!” I cried.
I saw Dog as she sank into the bottom of the lake, along with FireFox. “That dark dust,” Mos said to me. “It must be-” I finished his line as I said “The Halloween killer.” And I went dead silence that freezing night.
