/Chapter 17/

October 17, 1920

In a blink of an eye, it was already morning but felt like night to me. Mos somehow already had cleaned up the bloody mess that was on the ground last night. I saw him go as I notice that that was Icy’s best pal and was going to. Sadly, he had to be murder yesterday and put to death.

2 days before Icy came back from her “garbage” trip and I’d nothing to tell her on what has been going on around here. In fact, I haven’t had a single clue on who the Halloween killer could be. But whoever was behind the mask of the Halloween Killer, must be a talented person if he can get away from a murder case in the nick of time before anyone could’ve seen him for 16 days straight.

It was morning, meaning that I'll be heading towards Baka’s new bakery cause why not? Who else makes the best, fresh bread out here in this crummy ghost town? Nobody. Nobody but Mr.cookie baker. I headed towards his bakery and no joke, I could smell the fresh, pumpkin spice coffee coming inside his bakery from 20 feet away.

My mind had its own ideas of course. I raced towards the bakery faster than me getting a package from Amazon that I’ve been waiting for 2 months. As I opened the door and entered his shop, I heard a bell ringing above me. Just goes to show how Senpai will put every single of his heart to remake an impossible place that looks impossible to remake, into the most gorgeous bakery you’ll ever see.

“My My baka…” I said in surprise. “I gotta give you created for making this dump of a place that it’s into a bakery! Almost looks like your old one but smaller!” Senpai smiled at me as he gave me a cup of coffee. “Cold weather we’re having today eh?” He told me as he took a piece of bread of his counter. He ate the bread as he told me how the cold season effect all of us during this season.

I looked up to him every second as I drank my coffee just to take notice that I was paying attached to his story which I wasn’t actually. I was too busy thinking about who could be the Halloween killer. The problem was, I didn’t have a lot of time left.

“Hmm.” He said to me as he refilled my cup of coffee. “I can tell something is wrong by the look of your face. Is everything ok?” Now I didn't like telling anyone on what was going on in my head but Senpai is a nice guy that looks like he can keep a secret. Besides, he could maybe help me find some clues about this Halloween killer since I haven't told anyone else that I was still on the case.

“Well... “ I said to him as I put down my cup of coffee down. “Can you keep a secret?” I told him as I looked straight into his eyes. He stopped eating his bread and sat there for a minute. I looked around his bakery as he thought for a moment. Finally, he said, “It will depend on the secret if I can keep it or not but I can’t promise that I will. ” He said in silence.

I stared at him for a few seconds, then finally, I lean into his ear and said to him, “Do you have any clues on who can be the Halloween killer?”

He sighed as he put his hands together and put his head on it. He looked around his bakery and said, “Listen. I know the whole dark story of the Halloween killer but promised-” But before he could’ve said anything else, I went through his talking and said, “What is it?” He continued, “Promised you won’t tell anyone?” He said in a serious way.

I could tell by his voice and face that he was serious about it. I said sure but Neko came into the shop and interrupted us. “Hey, guys!” She said as she waved her hands towards us and walked towards us. “What’s cooking?” Baka and I looked at each other as we faced to Neko and the exact moment.

Long short story, we both told her about the Halloween killer and if she promised not to tell anyone, he will tell us. Us girls said yes to him and he started to talk.

“Long ago in the lands of New England, Lived a girl called Icyal Canvas. When she was 5, she was the top student of her elementary school to do fascinated art. In fact, by the time she went into the Middle school she has already won 5 Nobel Peace Awards for the best art around the world. Unfortunately, that went downhill really fast. As she got into the age of working, she didn’t want to work. Bad enough for her, she started to get jealous of the other artists. So one day on Halloween night in October. She went and killed all 31 of the artist night by night and by the time it hit November 1, She was never to be heard again.”

As he finished, he sipped his coffee as Neko and I were speechless. “Welp.” He said while stretching his arms. “Gotta get back to work an making more bread for the town. Cya!” He said as he walked towards the back of his bakery.

Neko and I walked outside the bakery. But I couldn’t stop thinking of why she’ll be killing all those innocent people. “Do you think it’s…” She said as she looked at me. “I don’t know Neko but he did sound serious,” I told Neko.

Neko threw some rocks into a puddle as she said, “It sounds real.” She said to me. I didn’t bother to think of it that much that day since I was already tired enough to even talk. Neko understood on what I was going so she threw some more rocks into the puddle and headed home as the Sun started to go down for the day.

8:00 PM

I was sick of not having a party every day just because Joe pushed Icy into the garbage can and FireFox didn’t feel like doing all that party stuff. What a lazy person. I went towards my upstairs window to see what Dog was doing. Apparently, she still had her lights on. Now since I had nothing to do, I decided to go to Dog’s house to see if she wanted to play a board game with me.

I got my coat from my bedroom and headed towards her house with a board game I had under my bed and headed towards her house. I knocked on her pumpkin door as I heard her coming downstairs, saying “coming.”

Now, in my opinion, I don’t really play any board games unless I’m really bored like today but I guess it’s good to have some time, even if you have work to do. Dog opened the door to a surprised to see me in front of her door. “Mos?” She said. “What brings you here?” She said as she jumped up and down. I could tell she was happy to see me.

“Well, it’s 8 o’clock and since there’s no party going on this week, I was wondering if you wanted to play a board game with me?” I explained to her. She jumped with excitement on her face as she said, “yes!” to me and took my hand inside.

I cracked opened the board game as little pieces of money with a man in a beard in front of the money came flying around. “Oooo, A money game?” She asked me. I blushed as my cheeks turned red, “Y...yes!” I told her. She looked pretty happy that we were playing a board game by ourselves.

8:30 PM
It must’ve been a few minutes after I heard someone screaming from outside as I was rolling my dice to make my next move on the door. Dog put on her rabbit slippers as headed outside along with me. She grabbed my hand as she started to follow me along. I didn’t mind her holding my hand. In fact, I felt like something was going on with us.

Dog said it came from the house over to the north-east of the ghost town. So from there, we headed towards the building to see what was going on.

8:30 PM

I was there reading a nice book that just got from the library when suddenly, I heard screaming coming near my house. I quickly ran outside, barefoot when I spotted where the noise came from. It came from Smoosh's house, the new person that moved a week ago back in the kingdom.

I rushed towards her house, already knowing what happened. When I got there, my heart started to beat faster than the shooting star I wish on every day. It was Smoosh. Her dead body was on the floor in front of her house. Blood covering everywhere near her. The blood was strong that I’d to use some kind of smelling mask to keep the smell out of me.

Just then, Dog and Mos came along uphill and asked, “What happened?” But before I could’ve said anything, Dog and Mos knew exactly what happens. “Oh no…” He said as he put his head towards Dog’s shoulder. Dog patted him as they signed at the scene of the crime.

“Well, Duty calls for me I guess,” Mos said as he went back to his house to get the mop that was covered in light blood stains on it. I spotted a note next to her. I almost didn’t feel like grabbing the note but who knew what it could’ve said. So I’d no other choice but to grab the note from the bloody scene and read it out loud.

I read as Mos was coming back with his mop, “This really shouldn’t be a surprise to you Ms.Joe~ Just remember when your doom is coming hehe. - The Halloween killer.

Everyone looked at me as I looked at my hands in front of me. Tears started to come out of me as I said, “I know I’m next.” And I didn’t say anything else from that day.
