Chapter 10 - Heather
December 10, 2018
We might have walked for about 4 hours until we spotted a new village up the hill we were currently camping up to. I was glad to hear the news about it cause if you didn't see by now, my legs were killing me from all this walking I was doing. Gracie, on the other hand, seemed like she was loving this trip by the tell of her facial expressions.
I didn't see how this kind of stuff made her happy but as long as she was happy with me, I was a-okay on that. The climbing up the hill took us about 30 minutes more after we have discovered that a village was behind this hill.
"Hey look!" I pointed towards the village. Everyone gasped as they have never lived in a village in their entire lives. I guess they really don't get a chance to look at an actual village from a point of view when they probably were worried more about work than doing so.
Like my mom used to say to me, "I should enjoy my childhood before I grow up and have to go to college and all that stuff. Thing is, I can't stop time so doing so was clearly hard but I tried to do the best of me.
"Hey, Kiwi! You coming?" I was so busy talking to myself to a rock that I haven't realized that the group has already left towards the village when I was still here talking to a rock. "In a minute." But I guess it was more than a minute cause Gracie started to make some annoying noises behind my back.
"Okay okay fine, I'm coming if you say so." But by just saying that to her, she also didn't like that. I could see that many girls have different taste of trips and Gracie was one of them.
On the way of making my way to the village and in hopes of me finding a good home that nobody has taken yet, I spotted some rosy flowers by the left of my eyes. "Look Gracie! Flowers!" Now as a kid, Gracie will always go outside in the spring and pick flowers with me every single day we came back from school.
"These will look perfect for our new home!" The smell in them reminded me of buttercup bread down by the old bakery we used to go. "We should probably get going before anyone asks where we are." I nodded at her, giving the, "yes mama," signal.
When we got to the village, we spotted a crowd of people surrounding what appeared to be a building being painted in gray and blue. I guess Gracie spotted the same thing in her sight also. Before I could even think of the trouble, I pulled Grace by the hand and raced towards the building that everyone was surrounding. "Hey, what the-" Gracie unsteady tries to pull away from my arm but couldn't do so.
When we got closer, I was shocked in the mind. Marco was... making his own bakery? Man, no offense but he was the very last person in my boys' list I would ever expect to be opening his own store. "Marco?" I said his name while getting closer to him.
"Kiwi! So glad you came! And hey Gracie!" I noticed something strange about Gracie cause for the first time, she blushed. Now, I could see why she did so since she doesn't do it that often but doing it from Marco? Now that's something to be jotting down on my diary.
"Wozza Marco? Whatchu building here?" I looked around the building to see if anything inside the glass window would give me any hints. "A bakery!" He smiled as he hopped off the metal ladder. "A bakery? Oh, Marco. You know who would be your first customer on your door." I winked at him; telling him the hint.
"Oh Kiwi, I would get you the freshest bread in the bakery once I open it." For some reason, I thought that he was thinking of a dirty joke. So I think this was the time for me to get going before anything else happens. "Well... okay then. Thanks for that. Got to go!" "All right Kiwi a Gracie! take care." I didn't bother to wave back at him but boy oh boy did Gracie did.
It was like I was missing a puzzle piece from her that I couldn't quite get yet. "So Gracie, what do you think of this place?" I tried to get her attention but all she did was scrolling down her Snapchat friends one by one.
I decided that today was a great day for me to be alone. So I told Gracie that I was going off by myself and take the day off. But even that, she still wasn't listening which was the perfect time for me to go.
As I walked around the village for a few more hours, I noticed a patch of flowers on the west side of the village where the fountain was. There was currently a person selling hot dogs near the fountain. I took a dig inside my pockets to see if I had my wallet on me and sure enough, I did. "Aw man."
I went into a complete disappointment when I notice that I had only $4 dollars left in my wallet. "Well, that's what I get for not getting money out of my bank." I decided that those 2 dollars I had were good enough for a hot dog.
I went towards the hot dog man and told him if I could have one hot dog. But instead of giving me one hot dog, he gave me 2! "One for your friends!" he whispered to me.
"Thank you so much!" I felt bad since I didn't have a lot of friends but it was nice of him for doing so. "Wait!" I remembered something inside my head. "I could give this to Joe for a surprise gift!" And that's exactly what I did. I went towards her house which was about 3 minutes from where I was.
When I got there, I noticed that her door to her house was wind open. "J-Joe?" I slowly opened the door to her house. "A-are you here?" My words were started to become numb from all the shaking that was going on. When I got to the kitchen room, I slightly heard someone from upstairs walking.
Now, as stupid as I am, I thought it would've been a great idea for me to shoot out load towards upstairs and pretended that I was a cop. "C-come down with y-your hands up!" But all that did was make the person skillet. At that point, I thought that Joe was being robbed and she wasn't noticing.
So, I made a break and raced upstairs to the second floor. But once I got upstairs, I wished I have never gone upstairs. BANG! Went the left side of the room; sounding like someone shotted someone. I immediately regret being upstairs and rushed out of the house where everyone including the cops where.
Once I got outside, I could see that everyone else was looking at the roof and not the door. "Wait for what!" To my surprise, I saw Limber with a gun in his hands, waiting to make his next move. "LImber st-" but before I could even say the last 2 letters from my mouth, he shotted not at me but the cop that was telling him to get off the roof. At that point, nobody gasped or dared to say a word after that. "Limber..." I couldn't bare my eyes from what just happened.
Just at that moment, Graci came up to me and hugged me as hard as she could. "Gracie..." I had no words right now to tell her how I was feeling about this. "It's okay Kiwi. It would be over soon." But I don't want it to be over...
A few minutes past as we stared at the house for a few minutes. I knew that this day, I lost someone that I used to know for his pizza and another which had some great talents in drawing.
* * * * * *
The day went on was like nothing happened besides the police tapping everything around the house. "Was Limber the Sanat killer?" I told Gracie, hoping she would know something about this. "I don't know." This feeling inside of me was getting to the best of me which got to the point that I couldn't stand it and had to tell the police.
I went to the police that looked like he wasn't the busiest and asked him my question. "Um, excuse me." He stared at me with his blue eyes. "Yes, may I help you?" "Um, I was wondering if Limber was the Santa killer since we had a Santa killer on the loose." I think he knew what I was talking about cause he started to say, "Oh ya! I heard it in the news! We are in the case and have only one clue.
He pulled out a bag with the killer fingerprint on it. "As you can see, this is the only thing we have so far and according to Limbers fingerprint, it doesn't match. Sorry." "It's okay Mr. I understand! Thank you for your time!" "Anytime!"
I thought that this was the perfect time to find out if Gracie did like Marco or not. Cause from the tell of me, I was building jealousy.
"Gracie, I need to tell you something." I think she knew what I was going to say but just in case. "What is it Kiwi?"
