It was a day like any other, driving along on a roadtrip to some grand destination… until a road sign appeared that was far different than the others. Way too colorful, the text a strange font and comically large. It read “Welcome to Ashbrook! Lose Yourself. Find the Truth”.
“Lose yourself? And what truth…?” Icy muttered to herself as she continued on the route. Before long a small quaint town appeared on the horizon. It must be Ashbrook. Too bad Icy had no intention of staying… that was until the car she was driving started to smoke.
“Oh come on, of all places…” Icy grumbled as she got out of the car, walking to the front to pop the hood. She sighed in defeat and turned around, only to find a small crowd of people beginning to form. One stepped forward in a pristine uniform, a badge gleaming upon their chest. Must be the sheriff.
“Welcome to Ashbrook, miss.” They said, their voice fitting for someone of a sheriff role. Icy quickly introduced herself to the small group, each member doing the same in turn. Before Icy could go into further detail about the trouble set upon her, there was a loud sound off to the left, somewhere within the town. Everyone froze, looking around curiously. Just what was that sound? It wasn’t the time of year for fireworks…
Without instruction and almost purely on instinct, the townsfolk and Icy all split off to search for what the sound may have been. It could have been something dangerous for all anyone knew, so it was best to get to the bottom of it. What else would Icy do in the meantime as her car still smoked?
After hours of searching and nothing, everyone met back up in the middle of town. The sheriff took a head count but… where was Maddie and Calmly? When they had gone off together, everyone had seen them head into the forest which wasn’t too far away. Something was wrong.
Forming a line of people, everyone head into the forest to search for the pair. Spreading out to cover more ground, but staying in a formation they wouldn’t miss anything. It was the sheriff that found them first, alerting the group to stay away in hopes of saving their innocence of such a brutal scene. Laying on the ground together, twisted and tangled up, were Maddie and Calmly. The question now that loomed on everyone’s mind was what happened? But the sheriff thought a second question… who did this?
TLDR: Maddie and Calmly are dead.
