Alright I am extremely pissed rn so this is just a rant to try and calm down.

I am indeed on an IEP system (Individualized Education Program) (which is short for a plan for the physically and mentally disabled) and my case manager out of the blue completely shattered my coping mechanism for classes, which is doodling. I've been on the IEP system for about 7 years now because of my Physical Disability, and we have it in WRITTEN papers that doodling is my "Fidget" if you will. I have physical evidence of my bomb grades! I have all A's and B's (And 1 C because of a test only) and I turn in ALL my homework, I do all the notes i need to do, and I participate in class. What the hell is the problem?! Why it is an issue NOW for me to draw in class when I have a 3.1 and I am doing pretty freaking well in ALL my classes?!?!

k im done. sorry... I am completely frustrated that my teacher is probably going to take my fidget away.

I agree with you. Strangely, doodling helps me stay focused in class if the teacher is talking. If I don't have something to remind me that there is a desk in front of me, I'll daydream and not hear a thing. And then there are the times when I'm actually writing and I'm told not to doodle .-.
Jeez if it isn't bringing your grades down you should be able to draw in class. If it was distracting you it would make sense but since you're doing so well anyway, it's just stupid for them to make you stop :/

Wow, and to think teachers allowed fidget spinners, which do absolutely NOTHING to help. I can’t believe a teacher would do this, especially if it’s written down as your “fidget”. I used to read and doodle in my class, and my teacher wouldn’t do anything about it. In fact, she actually encouraged it! As long as you pay attention in class and understand the material, it really doesn’t matter! I swear, if this brings down your grade... WHAT IS THAT TEACHER THINKING? Ugh, this is why the education system is so flawed. There are teachers that just don’t care anymore, even my own teachers can admit that. This situation frustrates me to no end, BECAUSE IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. Huh, well there’s my little rant. Good luck coping with that teacher and I hope you get your grades back up again! <3

I’ve doodled a lot and actually my class tested something with this. Doodling can help listening. So there really shouldn’t be a problem with it :/
And if it’s written as your fidget, why should they stop you? Not like it’s affecting you and your grades. If anything it’s probably helping. And if they take away something that’s helping you, my god somethings wrong there.

tbh i don't think it does, i doodle and i don't like doing it. It makes a mess on your paper if you doodled on ur hw or cw and I don't think teachers would like that

I doodle in a notebook specifically for doodling and stress. I never liked doodling on my homework cause I'm an OCD freak and it makes it look messy which I hate

I could relate. Except I rather space out of things and I would doodle but I’d be in trouble. Which doesn’t make sense.

Unfortunately, I really can’t relate to this because I don’t use anything to aid my concentration in class.

That sounds horrible though. I don’t like what this case manager of yours was thinking because, obviously, you’ve learnt to cope in class using doodling but now they’re taking it away. How exactly do they expect you to cope?! If it’s been proven that doodling is the best method for you then shouldn’t they be encouraging it? After all, you have access to higher grades with it.

I know this is a stupid question but have you tried reasoning with your case manager?

I understand that they probably intended to try and take away your fidget so you could learn to cope without it but they should’ve done that gradually and over time. If they just (BAM!) take away your “fidget” then obviously that’s going to throw you and might really deteriorate your confidence and concentration.

For 7 years I've tried to reason with her. Others play with string, some chew gum, some tap their foot, mine is just doodling. Specifically eyes. Eyes have been my stress doodle for years now. And to just take this away from me... like what am I supposed to do now?! I hate school sometimes...

It does because for one I go to a college preparatory school. There is A LOT of homework and tests and papers. Second, I have a minor case of ADHD and anger issues. I need this to stay calm. It helps my brain focos
