please give me an example of a contradiction so I can help with it
The god excuse is full of contradictions. I'm an atheist too (in fact I just hate the idea of being in a church), because religion is full of contradictions in its teachings please give me an example of a contradiction so I can help with it and the ones who say they are accepting because they believe in god tend to be the least accepting people in my experience. No offense intended to anybody religious here on BRLNS, that's just my observations. I'm not saying it applies to everybody. I suppose just in saying this I'm acting like I don't accept certain people and blah blah blah... but oh well I won't make an excuse at least. Now, onto why this contradicts itself. Let's say god was real.
If god dictates who we should love and if god is all-powerful, he is the one who decides who people like; he decides who is gay and who is straight and who is bi and who is asexual. No God created man with free will but also gave us rules to follow man broke these rules (read my previous post)
And religious people say that god does everything for a reason and that he doesn't make mistakes in things like this.
So there. God is obviously accepting of people who are gay and bi so just shut to fudge up because he wanted them to be that way. Boom. read previous post is explains this
Also, god is the one who says you're supposed to accept everybody for who they ar and all that, right? Isn't that some sort of teaching? no God said to love people no matter what they do and to teach them what is right So if you're religious and you're a homophobe you've already proven that you are going against god's teachings. they are not part of Gods teachings
And I'm not religious so nobody gets to use that as why I shouldn't say something, because I never claimed to be doing god's will or any of that poop. Any other argument against what I've said here is acceptable.
Also I realise that you could argue that based on what I said, god also created those people to be homophobes... and there's just one of the contradictions to which I was referring.
God says, forgive people.
God says, lol there are a lot of people irritating me let's kill off 99% of earth's population in a flood and leave one family to continue humanity.
He's just gone back on something he said, that's... okay I suppose contradiction isn't the right word for that example. But it's the first that came to mind. The contradiction is where god seems like a hypocrite.
Also I'm sure that a lot of innocent children would have been killed in that flood
But, y'know, strive to be like god and do what he does - genocide.
The free will thing... okay fine I guess. (But I still hold that
if god existed, in order to do what he's supposed to have done he'd be all-powerful, meaning he
could just control this stuff. But he doesn't, he's allowed gay and bi people to exist without changing them, so he accepts them.)
The going against god's teachings thing... let's see. Homophobes hate gay and bi people. God said to love everybody, you said that yourself. So... yes, that's opposite to what he said.
And I'd rather this didn't become an argument about religion - I agree with Blue, seeing the word
god this many times is a bit painful - so maybe just say what you have to on this and we'll leave it. Hopefully those other pages of this thread aren't like this...
