No they'll just tell you to ignore them

My mum told me to ignore bullies and they ended up directly pushing me around and throwing my things on the ground. How is ignoring going to help?

Shouldn't they be punished in some way? They should know that being disrespectful to people like that isn't acceptable. Oh well.
