What do you guys think of the new members on here? I'm still a fairly new member compared to the majority of the people here on BrokenLens. I've seen lots of members call the community toxic and I want to know how it was before all this drama. Do the new members contribute to the toxicity? If so, how? Although I can't vouch for all the new members here on the forums, I feel like some of us don't really understand what's going on. I'm creating this thread out of sheer curiosity so I would prefer if there weren't any unnecessary arguments.

Basically, I would like to know the source of the toxicity and examples/evidence of BrokenLens becoming a toxic environment. I would also like to know what new members can do to help the community instead of slowly deteriorating it. BrokenLens is a great place with even better people. Maybe we can't come up with a perfect solution, and maybe we can't completely stop the toxicity. As a new member, I would really like to help out. I hope we can all work together and wish the best for the future of the forums.

Thank you all,
Jenny (TheNeonHamster)

I think people believe that because of new members, they caused it so that there's a new style to BrokenLens compared to the old BrokenLens. It's possible that it had nothing to do with the new members, but for right now, Vertx hasn't made an update since March, and people are begging for him to change the server back to what it used to be.

I think the new members have contributed to the toxicity by creating extra drama, but I stay clear of it.

If you think I'm a new member, I stated playing August 2016. Don't know if that's a new member.

Honestly, some new members not all have been creating drama liek

He said. But I guess, I don't know since (I'm fairly a new member on here but been in the servers since 2016 something. So, I can't tell if I'm the in between of old or new) Don't get me wrong, most of the new members are actually pretty nice but sometimes, the drama is a bit over done whose contributes to Toxicity with both sides New and old. But idk..

I don't pay attention xD

I'm not that old on forums, in fact pretty new, but I've Bren on the server for a while.

The toxicity pretty much started when new rules were added to the games, like the no cross teaming rule. TBH, I don't thing new members caused anything at all. Some people say they have been causing drama, but otherwiseI haven't eeen anything wrong with em.

I've been on the forums since May 2016 but I joined the servers in March 2016, and people seriously don't know what drama is. The Aypifox/Manwee/MercDP thing was drama, not this.
Also, I don't see why everyone is saying the old members are saying it's toxic. Have you seen how many new people are saying it, too? It's 50/50. Not trying to start an arguement.
I think some of the old members are just angry that the new members are taking over the forums and making it "toxic".

Thank you, I was thinking about the no cross teaming rule. I didn't understand the purpose of the rule and nothing as wrong with the rule

Yea, it's one of the reasons mb isn't as popular.
You know, Leo was saying about a poll he made that rebelled Cross teaming. He was saying about how "we won". But, look at now, no cross teaming.

I think mb should cross team again, everyone could cross team for they wanted to and in the end, we would all pvp

I agree, by I doubt they will change it. Same with normal teaming.

Before there weren't as many targeters, teamers, even hackers were less. Sometimes you could play for full weeks and not see a hacker at all (or maybe that's just on OITC, it was the only game I used to play back then xD but then again, it was really popular - the most popular game, in fact...or I think xD. It used to always have up to 500 people online there, maybe more)

Also, the community was much closer, since BL wasn't as popular as it is now. I don't really blame new people for that since BL is ever-growing and you can't stop people from coming, but yeah it was nice while it lasted.

It was also nice because I don't think I ever saw anyone muted. I joined the forums in Feb 22 2016 (that was when my first account joined - it got banned but whatever), and although I never really payed much attention to the player reports, I can tell you there were less of them than there is now. I can say this because it was manageable by only six staff members. Well I say that, but really it was just Aypifox and Reownix who managed the reports to be honest xD
(If you'd like to know, the staff list during the time I'm talking about was this - vertx, edwjusti, Flowingmedia/HardDisk, WarriorGirl3333, Aypifox and ReownixCyanide (now demoted). Springtrap was actually promoted later, in May.)

I quit from April or May to July or August so I can't really say much on what happened between those few months I wasn't here, but I can tell you that everything changed. More new people were here, and less of those who I used to communicate and hang out with. It was hard trying to fit back into this brand new community I knew nothing about, but somehow I did it, and here I am now.

To be honest, I think the reason a lot of older members say BL is toxic is because of the change. The community was so much closer back then, and you'd welcome anyone gladly into your group of friends - plus, the friend list limit...well, there wasn't one. You weren't limited to just 100 friends in your friend list, you could have as many as you wanted. I think those little changes are what affected the older members most. Also, they probably have the most friends, therefore they've witnessed more people leaving than most. Which is why they say this place is "toxic" - they think the new version of BL is why their friends left.

So yeah. You can't exactly do anything about it. It's just that the old members have to accept the fact that, the more popular BL gets, the more rulebreakers there will be, the more people there will be, the harder to communicate since everyone already seems to have their own friends.

Oh and also, the fact that people think your level in game is proof of how long you've been on BL. Lachlan20 and Gokuperez have been here for barely even a year (probably, at most, maybe 8 months?) and they're on level 2500 and up, but people like me who've been here for a year and 6-7 months are still on level 250 to 300. It's that false assumption that makes older members angry, because the higher your level, the more appreciated you are. Same thing goes for ranked people. They're more respected than non-ranked people (although of course people still insult them and have arguments with them but that's not the point right now).

I guess that's what happens when something becomes more mainstream. Along with more people, there will always be more hackers and toxic people. I think I understand what you're saying. Correct me if I'm wrong, but BrokenLens used to be a really close-knit community. More people came along, making it harder it know who's who. It also made it harder for people to make friends, along with the 100 friend limit. I don't think the leveled up/ranked player issue can't be fixed since changing everyone's mind is impossible. I guess the real solution is to just get used to it (like you mentioned). People have to change with their surroundings and some are having a hard time with it (again, correct me if I'm wrong). Thanks for the info, it really means a lot.

Yeah. That's exactly what I mean.
I don't either, but it would be nice for people to be more respectful to normal players.
I s'pose that is the only solution, to get used to it
No problemuu

Just like Lauren said, BrokenLens used to be a really close, tight-knit family. We had other members, but they didn't really interact with the 'older' players. It was basically like an 'exclusive' (not in a prestigious way) group. BrokenLens Forums wasn't that popular then, so I guess everybody felt comfortable and happy with only a few fellow friends. I certainly did, anyway.

For a while, it was going strong. That's until all of the new players came, due to the new games and updates Vertx implemented into the server. With new games, came more popularity. With those updates and more players, came more glitches/hackers/exploiters.

Because of more players on the servers, of course more players joined the forums. But no, not to have fun and make friends like the older players, but to complain and report the faults (being the hackers, glitches, campers, targetters, anything). Our community was soon invaded with resent, anger and belligerence, just because of these updates.

Like any other group, BrokenLens fell apart. Some rage from the new games made people quit, some simply lost interest, some felt unwelcomed because of all these new players, some are inactive.

Basically our tight-knit family has turned into a place where people complain, report and anger others.

Vertx hasn't made an update in a long time now. But he just doesn't seem to care. He doesn't seem to care who he give staff to either (most of them are inactive). He'd rather quantity and population, over quality and true bonds.

I'm not playing the blame game, but the source of toxicity, from my perspective, has come from Vertx himself.
