From what I know about private reporting, I really dislike the concept. I understand that all staff members are probably trustworthy, but what if someone had a grudge against a player, became staff, and banned the player they had a grudge on for no reason and blamed it on a private report? Who is there to hold them accountable? Is there some sort of accountability system in place among staff members for private reporting? What are reasons someone wouldn't just make a normal report? I don't know much about the system and I would like to know more because there seems to be a lot of ways it could be exploited (obviously I don't know that for sure, and that's why I'm asking).

Thank you.

I was also pondering that thought in my head, but i doubt that it will happen, I mean vertx would look for very trusted players and give them staff and do their right job. But if they do do it, then the banned player could report the staff and make an appeal so...
Does that help?

And I don't think that anyone who became staff or the staff right now would ever do that, also some of old staff members got demoted because of that kinda stuff or something, idk.

Well, the reason I asked was because I saw a ban appeal where the player was privately reported, and the staff member simply refused to unban the player. If I were banned, I would at least like to see the evidence that got me banned.

I believe the specific report/appeal I was talking about to be truthful and the correct decision by the staff member, but I kind of doubt that every staff member is truthful with every report. No one is.

I'm pretty sure that the staff share the private reports among themselves. Like, if a staff gets a private report, they'll act on it, and if questioned about it, they'll show it to the other staff. It's unlikely that they'll share it with players because, well, it's a private report after all. But they'll show it to the other staff to prove it's a legitimate report and that there's proof for it

I hope so.

Thank you. This answers my question about whether there was an accountability system, assuming it's correct.

After that, my own opinion comes more into play, and we all know what typically happens with that xD
Anyway, what would be a good reason for someone to create a private report?
My opinion is that staff should at least share the evidence with the player affected by the action taken (the player who was banned, muted, etc.) so that the player feels that the action taken was legitimate.

someone might make a private report if they're reporting a really well known/high level player. If they made a normal report, there might be a lot of drama involved and hate towards the reporter. Also, if its something like bullying, the person banned might look up their report and then start bullying the reporter even more *cOuGh* I hope that made sense xd

^ & when i make a private report w/ a video from streamable attached, the video gets more views than the number of people i privately shared it with.

Thanks, that helps clear up the accountability system question

Don't let anyone, including me, get to you after you report people xD
You're just doing what's good for the server the majority of the time

That's the right answer!
This happened to me about 3 or 4 days ago.
The user wanted to see the evidence, but I denied the request because the person who reported her didn't want it to be shared.
So I showed the evidence to another staff member to show that I have the right to keep the user banned
