While we can block chests and furnaces from opening, we can't do anything at all about crafting tables as it's all handled client-side. blame Mojang ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How about completely removing the crafting tables, and add the command /craft, if possible. The only con I see to this is that players might be unaware of the change, but there are ways we can make it known

I don't know about this one, I am on the fence. On one hand, it is annoying as all hell when you're in the middle of a battle. But on the other, they are essential for crafting and cooking stuff. However, if there's a workaround where functionality is kept without being annoying then that'll be the way to go.
