We travelled for a while, never looking back at the creepy mansion. Stre, Cheesy, and I rode, while the others walked. The girl from the mansion introduced herself as Ice. Apparently, she'd been walking around the forest and noticed the horses tied outside the mansion, then heard the fighting begin upstairs and gone to help.
Once we could no longer see the mansion through the trees, Cheesy told us to stop and began handing out bottles of the same bright red healing potion that she'd given Ang and me in her 'house.' It helped with most of the cuts, but couldn't fully heal my leg; when I looked, the skin still looked pink and raw, and it still ached, but the pain was much more bearable now.
After a while, the trees became less dense, and many of the ones up ahead had vines hanging from them. The grass here had a darker green hue, or maybe that was just due to the night setting in. We decided we'd take a break from traveling for the night and set about cutting down three trees for logs to sit on. We positioned them in a square with a missing side and built a small fire in the centre. Then we sat down on the logs and ate.
While I ate my steak and baked potato, I looked at Legends of Spirits and Powerful Beings. The marked page was in a chapter titled 'The Being of the Void.' And... it seemed kind of weird to me.
Apparently, this Being of the Void, sometimes referred to as Entity 303 (although the book didn't explain where the 303 part came from), was the consciousness of the Void, the nothingness that surrounded all worlds at their farthest points. It was worshipped by all 'illagers,' like the guys at the mansion. Apparently, it had been slumbering for eons, but when it was woken, its consciousness summoned by some sort of ritual, it would grant strength and power to monsters so they could wipe out humanity.
Well, I feel loved, I thought sarcastically.
This Being of the Void was also supposed to be the most powerful entity to ever exist, so I wasn't sure why it couldn't just destroy us itself. Not that I wanted that, but it just didn't make sense.
The rest of the chapter was just the author talking about stuff he didn't know, which seemed sort of a waste and only left me with more questions.
'The Being occasionally influences events in the dimensions, such as natural disasters, but in recent times has shown no signs of consciousness.' I wondered when the book had been written, and what the author's idea of recent was when discussing something which was said to be millions of years old.
''To wake the Entity, a corrupted portal is required, though the method of achieving this is unknown to me.' What the Nether was a 'corrupted portal?'
Shaking my head, I took a quick look at the other chapters. Some names were familiar, others not - 'The Well Wisher,' 'The White-Eyed Demon,' 'The Deathly Guide,' and 'The Silk Snatcher' were just a few of the titles.
While I read, I've kept leaning across my shoulder to look at the book. Eventually, I asked if she wanted to read it.
Ice shrugged. "Um... so what's it about?"
"Just a bunch of stories about ghosts and stuff," I said. "Except... one of them, this one..." I paused, pointing the to the chapter about Entity 303. "We heard the guys in the mansion talking about it as if it's real, so I was trying to see of it could be."
Ice seemed to freeze for a moment, but then nodded. "Uh-huh," she said. "Well, why would it be?"
"Well, maybe it's related to the stuff going on with monsters," Cheesy said, from Ice's other side. "We know it started in the north, and we're trying to fix it, so if that 'Being of the Void' thing -" she made finger quotes, "is real, we need to know about it right? Since they were talking about it as if it's the cause."
"Here, you can read it if you want," I said, handing Ice the book. "Oh, um... nah, I don't need to," she said.
"I want to read it," Cheesy said, so I gave the book to her.
Then I took the map out of my bag and unrolled it. From the other side of the fire, Thomas laughed and said, "Geez, Hermione, how much did you steal?"
"Are you a kleptomaniac or something?" Stre added, laughing.
"It was just the map and the book," I said, smiling despite myself. "And I doubt anybody will miss them, right?"
And I don't think I'm the only one who took something, I added silently, but Ice wasn't talking about whatever she had taken.
There wasn't really anything else for me to see on the map, but some of the others got up to look as I spread it on the ground in front of me. Looking over it, I frowned at the little mark labelled Stronghold under village. There had been a room that held a fake End portal in the mansion, like one found in a stronghold, and the book had mentioned corrupting a portal.
No, please no.
Ice was looking at the map, and said, "Oh, that's where I live," she said. "That village. Uh, I didn't know there was a stronghold under it."
"Oh, by the way, Ice, do you want to help us?" Stre asked. "You know, going in there to defeat that Entity thing... more people would definitely be better."
Ice shrugged. "Yeah, sure. That sounds... um, interesting," she said.
She probably thought it was a suicide mission. Good, there was another sane person in the group. Apparently, though, neither of us was sane enough to just not be a part of this.
Well, at least I wasn't alone in thinking this was crazy.

Okay, guys, I want your opinions on something: should I make this into a series?
If I do, it probably wouldn't really be one continuous story but a bunch of individual stories, which are connected by references to past ones and by the characters (although new people will be added in each one) - and by Legends of Spirits and Powerful Monsters. So, even though there would be an order, they should be able to be read individually. Each one would be based on a chapter in it - not necessarily the ones mentioned in this chapter though. Some might be based on the Campfire Tales skins, others might be my own stuff. I don't know how many stories there would be if it becomes a series, and no, I haven't actually begun planning another one yet but I want to.
Whether or not I make it a series will affect one of the future chapters of this one... which I need to continue with, I'm one Chapter 11 right now ._. Anyway, yeah, feedback on that - in the poll or the comments - would be great
So. This chapter. Yeah, it was shorter, because there wasn't much going on, we're just learning about what we're facing. And... I don't know what else to say, really, so I guess that's it.
Oh, and what a relief Ice is just nervous about facing an seemingly-all powerful entity, right?
