it keeps happening to be but sometimes when I get hit by the murder I don't get killed. I'll just lose some hearts, but if I'm lucky I'll survive another hit. Tbh I like this bug because I won't DIE IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF SECONDS IN THE GAME
 
This is probably not a bug. The Murderer/Sheriff can both hit players with their hand and will deal damage but it doesn't kill you.

Do they use they hand when they try to hit you? If yes, this is not a bug.

Sheriff and Murderer can hit people. Once the murderer uses his / her sword if he hits you on his / her sword you will probably gonna die.

If sheriff doesn't show his / her gun and tries to hit you (Beware maybe it's the murderer, murderer and sheriff can hit both) You will probably loosen a heart.If the sheriff tries to hit you using his / her gun you will probably gonna die a couple of seconds once you got hitted. (If you are innocent).

If they were hitting you with the knife, yes it is a bug. If not, they are able to hit you with their fist. Murderer deals 2.5 hearts with fist while sheriff deals .5 hearts with fist. So if you lose 2.5 hearts start running lol

Its probably a technique so you will know which the murderer was..
