So you are walking around, and you see a bee. It disappears into a beehive. You brought a pair of shears and a flint and steel, and you light the beehive several blocks below the beehive. You collect the honey, when the bees storm out and kill you.

Fire is supposed to work against beehives, so what cause them to attack?

Knowing a bit of bees, it’s because of collecting the honey.
Bees attack the player if they take the honey using a glass bottle

I think you need to put campfire (make sure it's lit on) directly under the hive and shear or use bottle on the hive. Try not to break the hive.

Close, the fire needs to be RIGHT BENEATH the hive itself, if it is 2+ blocks below, the fire won’t reach the hive
