The tale of 2 great pilots
a lot grammar mistakes were made in this story
there were 2 amazing pilots on different country. they both were talented as fighter pilots. one uses the glorious P-51D mustang, and the other one uses the well known Yakovlev Yak-9. many pilots from different countries knew them and their skills at flying their planes.
one day, both of them were sent into a mission. the Yak pilot were sent to defend his territory, and the mustang pilot were sent to spy in the enemy territory before launching an attack.
(10:38) the yak pilot takes off from the airfield. the yak pilot climbed and maintained around 5000m above the sea level
(11:05) the mustang pilot takes off from the airfield alone to start the attack. he climbed and maintained at 4000m above the sea level
(11:14) the yak pilot realizes hes been flying around for an hour and needs to land and refuel his plane
5 minutes later, he descended to 4500m above the sea level
moments after that, the mustang pilot reaches the enemy territory. he was surprised that nobody was there to defend it. he put his throttle into idle to save his fuel while taking a few photos. not long after that, he suddenly hears a loud engine noise from his left. he changes his plan route to investigate the sound. the noise became louder and louder and eventually, he spotted the yak plane far above him. little does he know that the plane was piloted by an experienced pilot. he set his throttle to max, he pull the control stick to intercept that plane.
on the other side, the experienced yak pilot heard the loud engine sound far in the distance but he wasnt aware of it, he thought the sound was from his plane's overheated engine, he keep flying in a straight line.
the mustang plane came closer and closer to him. right when he was 800m away from the plane, he bursts 18 12.7mm rounds to the plane. the yak pilot realizes hes being attacked and he responds by banks the aircraft to the right and pull the control stick to evade the shot.
the mustang descend his plane to regain some speed while the yak climbs some more altitude.
while climbing, the yak pilot spotted the aircraft that attacked him. the aircraft was around 700m below his current altitude. he uses it as his advantage and starts the "boom and zoom" maneuver.
seeing the yak engaging him, the mustang pilot slam the left rudder control and causes the plane to bank to the right as an attempt to evade the yak's strafe run. he evades 3 shots from the yak's 37mm but the last one hit his tail and causes a serious damage on the tail control section.
the yak climbs again to regain altitude. seeing the yak climbing again, the mustang shoots a short burst to him and causes the yak to break his maneuver and started a dogfight.
the gunshots, engine noises can be heard from the sky. they both were desperately trying to hit each other for 2 minutes straight and then finally, they did the scissors maneuver. at that point they know one of them will overshoot and took the shot.
they reduces throttle, they slowed down, they spin around each other at stall speed desperately trying to shoot each other and then suddenly, a loud screeching and followed by a small explosion can be heard from each others plane. they rammed each other because were too busy trying to make each other overspeed which makes them didnt pay attention on their distance.
almost half of yak's left wing were cut because it hit and destroys mustang's elevator and the entire tail control section. and mustang's right wing tip were also cut because of hitting the yak's propeller.
both of them were flying in a straight line 20m from each other. they cant do anything at that point, the yak plane cannot pull up because it will cause the plane to spin uncontrollably before eventually ended up in a flat spin; and the mustang cannot pull up, neither push down because it lost its tail control and it also loses its wing tip which makes the plane unstable.
they both were panicking and desperately trying to get their plane on control again. at that moment, for the first time they feel the fear of losing their lives, they were scared of slamming the ground at high speed. in the middle of panic, the mustang's pilot looks at yak's pilot. he saw him panicking in his cockpit before he realized the mustang's pilot were staring at him.
they both stares to each other for a while. they saw each others face and expression which makes them realize that inside a brutal killing machine, there is a human being inside it. at that moment, they discover what so called "humanity".
the mustang's pilot lift his right hand and salutes the yak pilot as a signal of both of them having a great and fair fight until their last breath. the yak pilot saw it and salutes back at him. in his mind, if he had the chance to see that mustang pilot again, he will ask him "why did we do it? why did we fight?" "what for? is it worth it?".
not long after that, they both were about 400m above the ground. they extend their plane's gear and flaps. they bracing theirselves to hit the ground at 180km/h. seconds before they hit the ground, they looked at each other for the last time.
they finally reaches the ground. a loud squeaking noise from the wheel can be heard, dirts from the ground flying because of the impact before eventually, their gear gave up
mustang's both gear were damaged and destroyed while impacting the ground, the yak's right gear hit a log and destroyed it. the mustang's propeller hit the ground and creates a lot of shrapnel and breaking the cockpit's glass. the yak's left gear causes the plane to be unstable and makes the plane banks 90 degree to the side while dragging on the ground
both pilot were bracing themselves and trying to survive the impact as strong as they could.
and then it happened, the plane lands in a field 4km away from the warzone and reaches full stop with both pilot suffers some serious and minor injuries. mustang pilot opened his cockpit glass, hop out of the plane and walks 150m to the yak's plane while having some injuries on his leg. the yak pilot struggles to open the cockpit window and decided to break it to get out.
they both stand at the distance, staring to each other while still clueless about the thing that they were doing
they walk closer to each other before finally having a handshake as a signal that their fight is over
