The people of Hammerlock held another trial to try to figure out the arsonist that killed Maegan and Wolfie. After a lengthy deliberation, the town found Fire guilty of arson and sent her to be executed.
The people that night decided to still hold their firework festival, to both rejoice the town and honor those victims. Some gathered fireworks and began to set up the display as others went to spots they thought would be the best to view the display.
By the time it was perfectly dark for the show, everyone was in their place. Within a few seconds fireworks with all sorts of colors and designs lit up the sky. It lasted one a few minutes, but to the people those few minutes were much longer and filled with a sense of peace. Everything felt as it had, everything felt content despite the loud pops of the fireworks.
After the display, everyone began to return home and head to bed. One person took the alleyway to go home, and noticed something slumped over, almost like a large garbage bag, or even two. This person walked by without sparing a look, but was drawn back by a smell of metallic in the air they couldn’t describe. When they looked closer, those two things slumped over weren’t garbage bags.
A cry for help was heard throughout the town a moment later. Everyone rushed to the alleyway, lead by the doctor. What they saw sent chills down their spines. Lolo and Rose laid slumped against a building, both with a single gunshot to the head. There was nothing the doctor could do.
People began to murmur as the doctor took care of the two bodies. How did no one hear the gunshots? Surely someone should’ve heard them... without any leads everyone returned to their homes, that sense of content gone and replaced with fear.
