Java registering

hello, I have a friend on Java with a username: xstupid

Apparently it's already registered, is there any way he can change the name he wants to register with?

he can't make an account

what i did to change username was use the /switch command, though i cant remember if it only works on an already existing account. if so i would recommend him use bedrock to create an account first, then switch to java
