IN LOVE OR NOT IN LOVE
Chapter 1​

This is a story about me and a girl, who fell in love with me.
I was only 9 back then, which was 5 years ago, and I didn’t know what love is. I never felt love.
Of course, I do love the girl, but I had to fake it.

~November, 2013~
I was in school studying before the drum goes “bum, bum, bum!”, it signifies that it’s time for classes.
It was also the “dating” year for my class, because everyone started dating. Well, only half of them. I never participate in anything related to love, but I did. After school, my classmate (the girl) came to me. She was shaking in fear.
- Ally: Hi Matthew...
- Me: Hi Ally. What’s up?
- Ally: Well, I have a question for you...
- Me: And that is?
- Ally: ..Can we be... couples?
I was shocked of the question she said. Maybe she loves me? I was not sure.
- Me: Uh.. I’m not sure...
- Ally: Please, can you?
- Me: But why?
- Ally: You see, I’m always lonely and jealous of those lovebirds.
- Me: Okay, sure... But it’s only temporarily.
- Ally: No, I meant permanently!
- Me: Sure...
- Ally: Yay! Love you boo!
- Me: Okay okay...

As I was walking home, I was thinking about Ally.
“Oh my god... I lied to her.”
“I don’t even love her!”
“I wanted it to be a date that lasts for a few months, but now it’s permanent?!”
“I think I should love her until 5th grade.”
“I shouldn’t tell this to my parents. I’ll be in trouble because I always accept things.”
“Okay Matthew, just stop thinking and head home. You’ll be continuing this tomorrow.”
Then, I went home.

The next day was a disaster. She told everyone about it!
- Ally: Classmates! I have a new boyfriend!
- Will: And who is it?
- Ally: It’s... THERE HE IS!
- Pearl: MATTHEW?
- Me: What’s going on?
- Tony: Congratulations!
- Me: Ally, we need to talk.

I walked her downstairs (our class was upstairs) and talked.
- Me: You told EVERYONE?!
- Ally: Yeah...
- Me: But I thought this was a secret?!
- Ally: I’m sorry Matthew, but everyone already shared theirs!
- Me: ...
- Ally: You’re mad at me?
- Me: No I’m not, it’s just that we could just act like normal couples and let them know slowly...
- Ally: Well everyone knew... let’s just put this stuff aside.
- Me: Okay...
Then, we came back to our class and then studied.

A few hours later, it was playtime. Everyone was at the place where the “weekly school meeting” chairs at. When I stepped out of class, Ally called me over.
- Me: What’s happening?
- Ally: It’s just an event.
- Me: What event?
- Ally: You’ll see.

As I was about to leave, a friend of mine called me over.
- Rose: MATTHEW! STAND IN FRONT OF YOUR GIRLFRIEND!
- Me: Okay...
- Rose: Now, you’re gonna memorize Ally’s favorite things so you guys could know each other better!
- Me: So is everyone doing this?
- Rose: Every couple is.
- Me: This should be simple.
- Ally: Okay Matthew. My favorite color is purple.
- Me: Got it...
- Ally: My favorite meal is fried chicken.
- Me: I’m hungry now...
- Ally: Haha! And my favorite thing to do in leisure time is listening to music.
- Me: This is easy...
- Rose: Now Matthew, go away for 5 minutes and we’ll call you back, okay?
- Me: Sure.

I walked away after that. It was actually simple, I still remember everything. Also, I figured out a way to get out of this relationship: answer everything wrong and then tell her that I have short term memory loss.
So 5 minutes later, I came back.
- Rose: Do you remember anything?
- Me: Yeah...
- Rose: Okay, good! Now tell us all of the things Ally said.
- Me: Uh.. her favorite color is pink...? Steak is her favorite and listening to music is her favorite thing to do?
- Rose: Was it correct, Ally?
- Ally: You got 2 wrong, hun.
- Me: Oh really? I’m sorry... I have short term memory loss.
- Ally: Aw... well I wouldn’t be upset of you because you’re my boo!
Then, she hugged me and the drum, once again, said it’s time for more classes.
- Ally: Okay boo, let’s go study!
- Me: Okay... *you gotta be kidding me, it didn’t WORK!*

After school, the teacher told us that tomorrow we’ll be having a monthly class meeting because it’s the end of the month.
Later on, Ally came to me and asked me if I could come to school early tomorrow. I agreed because I’m always early. Then, I went home.
