Second of all, yes there has been some sort of tiny announcement about being able to use iTunes cards and GooglePlay Cards, the owner vertx is currently working on that, so you will probably be first notified if you check the 'minor announcement' and the 'announcements' section in the forums.
Edit: there is always giveaways for ranks being held on the forums, so you could always enter them and get a free rank, whether that be Gold, Diamond or Emerald, at least you will have something
