I think you should add someone called detective.

The detective will be able help the sheriff by detecting where the murderer is with a compass or something. If the murderer kills the detective, the detective dies. If the detective dies, there would be no more detectives to help the sheriff. The detective cannot hurt anyone.

honestly i think there shouldnt be a detective or compass. I think the sherif will kinda be like the murd. they get a tracker when theres 2 min left...something like that.

I disagree with this as the murderer role is a hard role to win with therefore by giving the tracker to sheriff will make the role even harder than it used to.
