They also met the unlikeable character Jar Jar Binks. If they let him get run over by an MTT, then during the next movie, Palpatine would have never been granted his emergency powers, and everything past that would have never happened. Anakin would have lived with his family with Padme, the clones would be decommissioned and create their own world, getting representation in the Senate, and Count Dooku and Palpatine would have been thwarted up to that point.
