As a person who plays OITC pretty frequently(assuming the game is still alive and running), I tend to think of two things, weaknesses and my internal frustration. We are talking about weaknesses later but now let me talk to you about ARCHETYPES! If you don't know what an archetype is Google it. So about archetypes, I'll give you three simple ones to get you started on what I think.
Rushdown
Like the name implies, rush them down and kill them quick, this is a common archetype used by many players even newcomers. I'll list pros and cons for this archetype:
Pros:
Defense
A more harder to play archetype, players that rely on patterns and predicting, waiting to get that very hard punish. Or you could stand back wait, hit, wait, hit, repeat but then you have info to punish anyways.
Pros:
Tricky
A playstyle not common like the Defense archetype. This is like a mixture of both with a little bit of surprise in it. At one time you're backing up and then you're up in someones face with a sword up someones chest.
Pros:
Rushdown
Like the name implies, rush them down and kill them quick, this is a common archetype used by many players even newcomers. I'll list pros and cons for this archetype:
Pros:
- Agile and fast, a good Rushdown can rush in at different directions to trick opponents.
- Can literally come out of practically NOWHERE and possibly surprise your opponent.
- Very common and easy to master.
- Easy to notice patterns if you don't mix-it-up.
Defense
A more harder to play archetype, players that rely on patterns and predicting, waiting to get that very hard punish. Or you could stand back wait, hit, wait, hit, repeat but then you have info to punish anyways.
Pros:
- Hard to punish because of defensive behavior.
- Easy hard punishes for over-confident opponents or "mistakes were made"
- High skill in order to master
- Creative mix-ups can possibly crumble defenses.
Tricky
A playstyle not common like the Defense archetype. This is like a mixture of both with a little bit of surprise in it. At one time you're backing up and then you're up in someones face with a sword up someones chest.
Pros:
- Plenty of mix-ups to keep your foes confused and on their toes.
- "Counters" most archetypes because of unique playstyle.
- Also high skill in order to master because you have to know what your opponent is thinking.
- If you use the same tactic, one of the pros turn against you(the second one).
So yeah, that's how I do this process but sometimes my mind can go pretty complicated. Though I'm not the best PvPer since I'm a Split PvPer and still trying to become at least better than most of the people that can win against me. There are other tutorials better than this but hey, I haven't talked about bows yet! Well it's more simple than melee combat just predict where your opponent is going to be when you fire the arrow so that's it.
