So recently on my new player account, I earned a green gem from my game. When I tried to open it, it said only Premium players can open green gems. Last time I remember, every gem used to be free. I surely hope that staff can rethink on this idea because I'm pretty disappointed on this "Premium only gem".

You need to buy VIP ranks to open it cause its special. Green gem is the only special gem. This is why it special because it contains valuable and expensive prizes.

When I opened a green gem today, it gave me a pet that cost 20,000 coins

Green Gems are only for Premium Staff or a brokenlens staff only...You can Buy a VIP Rank on Brokenlens Shop
