When you are about to fall you switch to Cobblestone and place it under you

You can also pre-actively have it in arms reach so you have a better chance at doing so (kinda like this

Not trying to be boastful or showing off, but that could be one of the situations when It comes to having no food [yes, I was using buster and forgot to switch, sue me] and If they hadn't fell off I would've definitely lost)

plus it's kinda hard to throw a pearl mid fall in pe lol cuz u gotta turn, lift yo finger, then hold the screen again and by that time you're already dead

This is the process:

1. Pull the enderpearl out
2. Press on the screen
3. Wait one second (it has to register that you're trying to use an item)

By the time you get step 3 done, you're 4 seconds away from the void. Even if you are fast enough you'll either miss, hit the bottom of the island, or not make it in time.
