- Pacific Rim. Big Kaiju fighting big mechs, no questions asked. Unlike the sequel, the mechs had more of a heavy sense to them, with groaning metal sounds and each step from them having more weight. There was also a lot more logic as well, with one scene having a mech follow the street and avoid stepping on cars, while the sequel has a mech throw buildings onto a Kaiju.
- Rogue One, with a protagonist female character, who doesn’t seem to be extremely powerful from the start like Rey, and also included one of the best space battles in Star Wars. There were interesting designs for vehicles as well, from the four-winged shuttle and the U-wing.
- Revenge of the Sith is one of my favs, against common opinion. Most people say because of the insane laziness of the sequels made it age like fine wine, and to a degree, I agree. (That unintentionally rhymed.) Plot line made sense, the fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin was epic, and the Battle of Coruscant, from a viewer standpoint, looked very cool. Only complaint is that one of the main antagonists, General Grevious, got nerfed to oblivion. An earlier cartoon showed his tactical prowess, and showed him completely dominating Jedi, while the movie version and the 2008 Clone Wars Show portrayed him as the cliche superhero villain who runs away when their plan doesn’t work.
- Godzilla 2014, a strange amalgamation of some themes of the original 1954 Godzilla and a gritty war movie. Only reason why this isn’t farther up on the list is due to the fact that it’s so frikin dark. However, in a few circumstances, the dark scheme really made the G-man’s atomic breath stand out a lot.
- Godzilla KOTM. Another big Kaiju movie. Critics complained that there was too much monster action, and wanted the movie to focus on the humans more, while the fans complained that there was too much human drama and wanted more monster fight scenes. Personally, I wanted more monster fight scenes. There’s a really cool sequence with basically a large lava bird fighting fighter jets off the coast of Mexico, that was uninterrupted by human drama and showed how intelligent the Kaiju were.
So basically, in a nutshell, I like fighting stuff.
