Idk how to do this digitally, but I can tell you my personal way. I start off with sectioning the art into different pieces (i.e. ears, face, wires) and then shading each area in a uniform color. Afterwards I add a shadow on one edge and a light shine on the other, depending on where my light source is. Then, since I draw with paper/pencil I use my finger to blend the graphite a little bit so it looks smooth. You might need to look at real images for reference at first but over time you can pick it up.
