"I'm gonna be kinda sad to be out of the woods," Kendra told Thomas with a sad smile as they broke camp.
Thomas and Kendra were both travelers, something of an oddity for normal people such as themselves. Generally speaking, it wasn't safe to travel alone, or even in small groups, for the danger of monsters attacking. The same didn't apply to Creators, who could simply summon stone from the ground and kill monsters from several metres away. They didn't need to get close and use swords, and didn't have to rely on arrows which could miss and cost you you life if your aim wasn't good enough.
Kendra had always wondered what that ability would have been like, but she was confident enough in her swordsmanship skills to keep her alive. Thomas had admitted to imagining having powers too, although in the Savanna - where he had been raised - Creators were seen as demons. Anybody who could manipulate the earth in such a way could only be a demon, they said in the Savanna.
As far as Kendra was concerned, that was stupid. Shed been raised in the Taiga biome, where Creators were not demonetised but were not worshipped either. They were simply people with powers, and those powers were useful. They kept people alive - not just the ones who could use them, but those around them too. There was absolutely no reason to turn them into monsters.
Thomas laughed. "Why are you gonna be sad?" he asked. "I'm excited to see the ice spikes."
The two of them were going north, passing through every biome they could until they reached the snow. Then... Kendra wasn't sure where they'd go after that. Maybe they could stay in a village or the city there. It would be pretty cold, but that sounded fun. Just as long as people understood that they were friends. In almost every village they'd passed through, somebody had remarked that they looked like siblings. Kendra supposed she could see where that idea came from - they both had brown hair, although Thomas's was darker, and blue eyes, and their skin tones were even similar. And when they explained that they weren't related, somebody would ask if they were dating.
They. Were. Not.
As Thomas finished folding up his tent and they set off, Kendra frowned at the ground. She was certain that there hadn't been any stone there yesterday, but now she saw small pieces of rock jutting from the ground around where the tents had been. They seemed to have veins of faint colour running through them - the rock must have been andesite. Thomas didn't seem to notice.
The two of them began walking, and after a few minutes, Thomas suddenly said, "Apple."
Kendra smirked. "Blade of grass," she said, "and there aren't any apples here."
Thomas grinned. "You sure?" he asked, and rummaged in his pack before pulling out a round, red fruit.
Kendra rolled her eyes. "But that doesn't count."
This was a game they often played when walking; they had to find an object around them that began with each letter of the alphabet, in order. Whoever failed to find an object first lost.
"I say it does count," Thomas said, then began to eat the apple. "Anyway. Creature," he added, as a sheep walked past them bleating.
Kendra rolled her eyes. "Doofus."
Thomas didn't react. He merely said, "Entrance to a cave." At Kendra's frown, he added, "You got to say 'blade of grass.'"
They continued their word game as they walked, each complaining about what the other came up with, until Thomas suddenly said, "...purple particles?"
Kendra frowned at him. "I like the alliteration, but you're supposed to be doing M, genius."
Then she noticed what he'd seen: a puff of purple particles in the air to their left, quickly fading to nothing. "Okay, so there's an Enderman. So what?" Kendra asked.
"Just... I swear I saw it. It didn't look like an Enderman," Thomas told her.
Endermen were tall humanoid creatures with sticklike limbs that could teleport all about. They were dangerous when provoked, but as long as you didn't look them in the eye they were fine.
Kendra eyed him warily. Was Thomas joking? He had to be, but... he didn't seem like he was. "Are you sure?" she finally asked.
Thomas nodded. "Yes."
No, he wasn't joking. She could tell. "Well... okay then," Kendra said. "Then we have to figure out what it was."

Terrible title, I know XD It does make sense for some of what's will happen later, but it still sounds dumb. Also, I'm aware this chapter kind of short - I was going to switch to another POV in it but then it would have been too long, plus it didn't fit into this chapter very well.
NO SHIPPING SHALL ARISE FROM THIS CHAPTER.
Also note that I'm not going to have a set schedule for when chapters will be posted - they'll just be posted... whenever. If there's anybody who wants to be tagged to know when new chapters are posted, say so - I figured out what happened last time that caused people to not get alerts. Constructive criticism is welcome, once it's actual constructive criticism, and not about the title, etc.
