If your a racing enthusiast and a big fan of corvettes you probably may have heard about the upcoming C8.r that is probably gonna race next year at Le Mans which is a mid engine corvette that is unlike any other corvette out there and why I think it was a good move
let’s first understand it’s history: you see when the first corvette was released sure it’s was stylish and cool looking but it’s performance is downright terrible so GM (General Motors) had a bad start on the corvette. When the c2 corvette was released things took a turn real fast because it had a v8 inside of corvette and it was a front engine sports car and it performed better than the c1. Over the last few decades the corvettes aged well and some of the most iconic corvettes are the c6’s and the c7’s because 1 you see them more often and 2 people tune these cars a lot.
so what’s with the C8.R? Well GM wanted to go endurance racing so they made the C5.r first to race at all endurance tracks and then the C6.R which demolished at the 2009 Le Mans and then the most lovable corvette of all the C7.R and they all had one thing in common there all front engine instead of mid engine like The Ford GT, Toyota TS050 hybrid etc. And so you could say that corvette was the only modern endurance car to be front engine like all other street legal corvettes. So what made the C7.R so special and why do some people adore this vechicle? Well corvettes uses what’s called a pushrod for their naturally aspirated V8 which is you get this monstrous v8 sound when this beast passes by and it was the corvette that people loved.
so why did corvette choose to go mid engine on the C8?
Well over the past decades corvettes were all just front engine the issue was it wasn’t gonna last forever so basically they made the C8 as a farewell to all the front engine pushrod corvette but yeah that’s the reason why I think they made a good but if you want to see more I’ll put a link on where I got from
