Do axes still do more damage than a sword? Lots been saying yes and no. :/

All I know is that a diamond axe is equivalent to an Iron sword, you can always see their damage when you hover over the axe or sword or when you’re moving them it pops up quickly

I see dream use axes instead of swords on mobs, and this is only a hunch, but axes deal more damage to mobs than swords
