Chapter 4- Spirits Cloud
December 16, 2000
It didn’t take me a minute to realize what these people were up too. I glanced up at the snowy hill to spot a man that just so happens to be my brother, in a knights armor, AND, with a royal sword and crown.
“He’s ready to talk to you,” Camila said, having her hands folded with her missions. I felt as if I was being set up with all this, and this dream didn’t really exist and I was going to die in a blink of an eye.
“Well? What are you waiting for?” Camila told me, smiling as she came towards me, laying her hand behind my back as she forced me to head up the cobblestone stairs. Staring at the cobblestone stairs filled with snow, it was hard to tell what were stares and what wasn’t.
“Okay then,” I took a deep breath, looking up ahead at my brother Carter. His cape was flying like crazy behind him, having his sword in the air.
My heart beating faster than lightning itself, I made my final steps up the cobblestone steps and into the red pathway of the castle, having no sight of snow on it.
“Follow me,” Carter commanded, putting his metal sword into his right pocket and heading inside.
With my body straight up, I headed inside where two guards lifted their swords from the entrance, lending them down once we were both in.
The long hallways and its height were like a mall’s but without windows or shops around you. Before getting into what appeared to be the main room which was filled with books and paintings along with a fireplace that’s big enough to cook an entire human being, there were an awful a lot of giant portraits of my brother.
“Sit down,” Carter told me, serving me a cup of coffee in a small white cup. He served himself some before heading to glance at the window.
“You know the trouble we have gotten into?” Carter asked me, his back facing me. He had quite a fancy shirt on him on top of a black coat that’s good enough to get chicks.
“No, I do n-” but Carter imminently cut me, raising his voice a little as he explains, “Apparently, we have two bases in the village. Yes, we’re allowed to visit each other. But, there’s just one problem.”
Carter takes a sip of his cup, pouring a little more cream onto it. “The kings which for this village, is me, don’t get along. And, if you’re looking for a name, it just so happens to be Addy’s dreadful brother, Laden.”
Hearing my own brother turning into a king and giving me a speech gave me another look at him, showing me the real him and what he was capable of
“Just do me one favor,” Carter tells me before I even stepped out of the room, “don’t get in a fight with Laden, the other king, that’s all I beg.”
Carter’s voice goes to a settlement phrase, never in my life hearing him talk in such a sad voice.
“Yes, sir.” Me calling him sir was pretty weird when it was my own brother but if it meant the new rules, then I’m up to it. I stared at him, still glancing down at the window when I got here. I then left him to be.
The guards lifted their swords up to let me out, slowly heading down the snowy cobblestone stairs.
I was about to head back to the main village where out of nowhere, Camila sneaks up behind me, jumping 2 feet into the air before realizing.
“Hahaha, finally, I got someone today!” Camila laughed, having a plastic bag on her hands.
“Hey! What was that for?” I told her, picking up my winter hat from the ground. Camila pats me on the shoulder, saying, “I’m sorry Lia, I just wanted to do that to someone so badly.”
She then smiles at me, waving me goodbye as she heads off. Now, I was curious about why Camila was being so nice and cheerful all of a sudden.
Camila was those girls back where she had rich parents and was a spoiled brat to everyone that didn’t have at least 2 of the latest models she had. And now, here she was, wearing a ripped shirt with a coat that was barely enough to keep her warm, but hell, I love her this way either way.
I spotted a bakery up ahead and decided to head there since I was kinda starving. Reaching for my pocket for some money, my head bumped onto someone else, knocking that person and me onto the ground.
“Ow! Again!?” I quickly lifted myself up from the snow, having snow covering my back. I glanced upon on who I knocked down and it oddly happened to be my 7-grade science partner, Sam. I never considered Sam to be a great friend since he always body-shamed girls when he got the chance. But hey, maybe he changed like Camila, maybe not.
“L-lia?” Sam gets up, wiping the snow off his coat. I’m surprised he still knows my name 2 years later after just working for him on a science project for 3 days.
“Hey, Sam,” I said, not making eye contact.
We both stare at each other awkwardly for quite a while. Suddenly, Sam askes me, “Um, we kinda need you for a big project.”
I glanced around to spot everyone gone from the village. That only meant one thing and I knew exactly what it was and what was about to happen.
