Chapter 3- The Top Of The Hill
December 16, 2000
My brother, out of all the things he could be, a leader? What? Who decided this? I mean, wow, I have tons of questions but so little answers to most of them.
“I think I might have the answer.” A girl with tons of hair color whispered into my ear, grabbing me by the arm and leading me into a small hut near a blacksmith.
She locked the wooden door behind her, closed every window shade in the hut, sat me down and offered me a cup of tea.
“No thanks,” I said politely.
The girl served herself a half-filled cup of tea, sat down across from me, sipped her tea slowly and finally glanced at me.
“Your brother, um,” she pauses, turning her head to the window on her left then looking back at me.
“He’s a dangerous man but a heroic person.”
I was extremely confused about what I was hearing. A heroic person? I doubt that. A dangerous person? Yea, that I agree too.
“Carter, if you couldn’t tell by now comes from a timeline of many brave heroes that fight in an arena with hot lava surrounding them. Carter won every single battle back in his day. Unfortunately for him, he was kicked out as they found out he was taking drugs before the fight.” She takes a deep breath before continuing.
“But even without the drugs, your brother is a tough and challenging leader that you have to earn his respect.” She explains.
I give out a big sigh like I was trapped in debt with my bill. Laying back from the wooden chair, I peeked at the dull gray room with all the lights out like some sort of abandon house.
“Vanessa!” I heard her name being shouted from outside.
“Shoot, my crewmates are looking for me.” Vanessa quickly takes the green mug from the wooden table and places it into the sink, swings the door open and tells me before leaving, “Just be aware of your brother,” and leaves.
Be aware of my brother? Damn, that wouldn’t be that challenging considering I have been doing this my entire life.
I decided to use Vanessa’s coffee machine to make myself some dark coffee, grabbing a striped white and blue mug from her cabinet, laying back on the couch and let myself release my stress a little.
It wasn’t long before I sipped my coffee up and wasn’t happy as I wanted more. I then thought it would be extremely rude if she found out that I used her coffee machine to make coffee, leave the coffee cup in her sink and leave like I own the place.
So, as the nice person I was, I stored away the coffee machine, washed up her mug, not the mug she drank from, placed it back where it was and headed outside.
I was instantly hit by the heavy snow being blown through my Christmas hat that had lights glowing from it.
Up ahead, I spotted a nice bakery with warm bread being cooked in the oven behind the glass window.
Since I had nothing else to do with my spare time, why not get some food, besides, the townhall people are probably deciding what we’re going to do tomorrow and which role we all got.
Spriting ahead, I was almost near the glass door were out of nowhere, POW. I was smacked right in the head, bumping into someone as they fail onto the pile of snow with me
“Ow,” I say slowly, laying on the ground as snow piled onto my face.
“Oh my God! I’m so sorry!” I heard a boy’s voice coming from beside me. His shadow appears in front of me, soon lending me a hand.
Taking his hand, I got a good look at his face. He was a short yet thin boy, pale, with orange hair looking like the rip off version of Ed Sheeran. Even with the right glasses, it would be extremely hard if you but the real Ed Sheeran to this kid that head bumped into me.
“You okay?” He asked me, shoving the snow off his heavy red coat. I gave one more good look at his face and notice something familiar. Then, it hit me, his name was Jinx, the boy that my best friend dated for around 4 months before breaking up.
I also remembered Jinx being so heartbroken, he couldn't stop throwing up in the boy’s bathroom that eventually, he had to be taken out of school.
“Yea, I’m okay,” I said, pulling my hair out of my face. He imminently notices me by her ex’s best friend as I was the only one that followed her everywhere.
“Oh, I remember your name! Your name is, um… oh, Addy!” He said, smiling.
I gave a little grin, telling me, “Yup! That’s me!” Swinging my arms around like an idiot.
There was a long awkward silence between us, looking at each other in the eyes. He had this marvelous blue and green eyes he was born with. Just by looking at them, made me want to wear summer clothes during winter.
Then, I notice Jinx giggling as he slowly retrieved from his location he was standing. Now, since Vanessa was the only one giving me information about this whole dream, why not receive more information from this guy Jinx. Who knows, he might know a thing or two.
“Wait! Please, before you leave!” I reached my hand out like some sort of romantic movie. He quickly turned his head around, his hair flying to the front of his eyes. I retrieved my hand back as I said, “Can you tell me more about my brother Carter and what he wants from us?”
Jinx didn’t seem to like the idea cause he gives a smirk mixed with a frown face towards me.
“Hm, why don’t you ask him in person?” That’s when I knew where this was going.
