Bug? (Ill just delete this if im mistaken i dont play survival much)

i feel like there some kind of bug with pvp

if i have diamond helmet and boots (with diamond axe) and im fightning someone with iron chest and pants (stone sword) i feel like its almost impossible to kill them, the axe does barely any damage whilst the do a to of damage, i have to eat like 3 gapples just to stay alive


maybe its just me cuz i dont play mc survival much (i can just delete this)
but i feel like pvp is different or thers some bug with weapons or something
