Banning pedophilia

I don't know if there has been any threads talking about this, I haven't been attached or looking on forums really but like I just feel like staff should impose bans on pedophiles... like there are too much lurking on Minecraft servers and it's disgusting.

Staff should ban people who display pedophile behavior and pedophiles who are DATING minors. I'm not saying that BrokenLens should ban online dating, I'm asking brlns to take action against these pedophiles and these pedophile relationships. Most of us are minors and can be victims to these predators. These predators can take advantage of us and more and that is not okay.

If someone is legally an adult, then they should be banned if they are DATING a minor. I know it can get murky around the ages 17,18, and 19, so like maybe predators 20+ years old dating minors should be banned. However, it is not okay for a 17 or 18 or 19 year old to be dating, say, a 12 or 13 year old. So I also propose that predators dating people at least 3-4 years younger then them should be banned as well.

Laws punish people who pursue inappropriate, predatory relationship with minors in real life, so why not BrokenLens? BrokenLens should be making this place a better, safer place for children and not a place to groom and manipulate minors. There are already too much predators on Minecraft nowadays.

When banning people for being in pedophile relationships, staff should be banning the pedophile and not the victim. Staff should be looking into the relationships to find out who is the perpetrator to make sure we aren't banning the victims.

One thing we absolutely do not tolerate is inappropriate behavior or creeps in general, but whenever it comes to age that’s one thing we cannot just assume or guess and we especially can’t ban somebody without having full details of the relationship(s). We could obviously ban them off our network but if they have contact outside of BrokenLens we unfortunately can’t do anything about that which is where the parents *should* come in.

We take these things very seriously and want to protect our players, however nobody has brought it to our attention and if they have there was no proof to back up their claim therefore we can’t do anything regarding the situation. We advise ALL our players to keep their personal information to themselves in an attempt to keep people safe but nobody at all takes these things serious (regarding everything, especially personal info & passwords.) I don’t believe we’ve ever banned ‘victims’ although we certainly have / do permanently banned people off Brlns for inappropriate behavior.

Age is a very tricky thing specifically in the online world, it’s something you expect to be true but there isn’t any actual proof to even prove you are however old you claim to be and that plays a huge part whenever it comes to these things. I’m sure it’s no secret that there’s definitely been some teenagers that have dated people far older than them and know better but are just so madly in love or being encouraged by their friends which is where we’d expect or hope people would come forward and inform us what’s actually going on so we can be sure nobody is being groomed or manipulated into an underage or inappropriate relationship. We always try keeping our network a safe place for everyone, but that can only go so far without help from others seeing the situation unfold in front of them. I think the biggest problem I’ve seen is certain individuals thinking they’re cool to be dating an older person but I think people need to actually take a moment and think about these things and imagine themselves in real life because if there was ever a time you stood in front of a total stranger taller than you, bigger than you & stronger, I think you’d feel a tad bit anxious if you ever met somebody online in real life which happens to be way older than you. We try to keep our players safe but people need to try keeping themselves safe as well, people need to be aware of the legal issues and understand ‘love’ can get people in serious trouble and scar you for the rest of your life. Manipulation and grooming is a serious concern, but people need to still understand that sometimes it’s a choice and not a forced action (whenever it comes to certain ages at least.) We all know who I’m talking about whenever I say that, either way it’s not right and something we’ve always kept a close eye on, that doesn’t push aside the problem but it’s just something people need to think about before getting in any relationship at all because you never truly know.

it overall depends on the type of relationship they have, if it’s a 17 year old and 19 year old (examples.) then if the adult isn’t having inappropriate contact with the minor it’s not actually against the law as far as I’m aware. It’s a total difference story if it’s a 15 year old and 20+ year old, because there most likely is something going on that shouldn’t be.

I suppose it depends on the situation, I don’t think I’ll be able to give you an exact answer without a proper example although if we receive enough evidence something there is an actual concern we’d definitely look into it and make sure it’s not something more than casual relationship talk.

The age difference would definitely play a part as well, as I said if it’s not a huge difference and there’s no inappropriate behavior / contact going on we aren’t just gonna ban somebody for being a few years older if that makes sense.

Yes, I agree age is a very tricky thing, we often lie about our ages at first because it is the smart thing to do, but over time our real ages will most likely come out as we get comfortable with the community (doesn't go for all people).

And yeah I don't expect staff to do some FBI level snooping, all I'm suggesting is staff pay attention to clues and such and be aware of concerned players who come forward. There are plenty of concerned players out there because they are most likely friends with the alleged person being groomed, but they cant really come forward because there really isn't any punishment for these pedophiles.

There definitely is, it’s the same way we permanently ban players for inappropriate behavior, I banned someone just last week for sending nasty messages actually. We’ve also muted people in relationships for even mentioning inappropriate doings - we certainly do pay attention to these things and there’s for sure a punishment.

Yeah it can get murky with ages 17-19, which is why I suggested that one cannot be dating someone at least 3-4 years older or younger them

I mean, yes banning people for inappropriate behavior helps, but there are pedos who are careful to not say anything inappropriate to not get caught. But as of now, if they are involved in a relationship with someone who is a minor, there really ain't much punishment since technically they didn't do anything wrong. But if we were to ban these predators for engaging in such relationships, I feel like brlns can be better. I don't mean to argue on this, I'm quite concerned on the situation and everyone else here

That’s whenever it becomes a problem legally because if there’s no inappropriate behavior going on we genuinely cannot do anything unless there’s more of a problem brought to our attention, the thing is there absolutely ARE bad people who are pedos but there are also good people who have no intention of harm which makes it pretty impossible to just ban people over their age. As I’ve said before it definitely depends on the age gap, but once again it’s pretty impossible to ban someone just because they could potentially be dangerous. We absolutely could do better, there’s always room for improvement but we will never and have never pushed aside concern.

Well, dating a minor should count as inappropriate behavior as a possible offense because it's an inappropriate relationship with a child one way or another. Even if there are people with good intentions with a minor, it still is a problem... it is not a good example to set for other kids. If one kid is dating someone way older, but he has "good intentions" or is very good to them, chances are, other minors can make the exact same argument to defend the relationship when in reality, they could possibly be groomed to believe that.
