That happened to me recently. Try restarting your minecraft and then try connecting to the server. But this works perfectly fine for me.

Reason 1: Interent
Reason 2: The server is full.
Reason 3: It happens alot. When it is loading it stops either because a huge lag spike stops it from loading.
Reason 4: It's a bug in minecraft?
Reason 5: Server closed?
