As for me, it would be very similar to the role you would play also. But I would go with the “outcast friend,” where basically the main character would do something vile to his/her friend and that friend will disappear for decades until around 20 years later, that person will reappear and make the main character’s life miserable.

But the catch is, the main character doesn't know that this person/villain is the same person that they bullied until around the climax point where they’re at the point of death that they reveal themselves as the person they bullied everyday. Kinda like a plot twist.

Basically a person that thrives for revenge on their childhood bully after all these years to summarize it.

If you were capable of going back in time to any year to meet a certain person, what year would you choose and what person would you like to meet during that timeline; also, what would you do with them?

oh no, dont worry about responding late. everyone has a life outside of forums, and thats completely understandable.

yeah, the thing about the yearly tests is from a movie, but i have no idea what the movie is called. you see, i have the memory of a goldfish. im very bad with names and can often forget the simplest of words, like "frequently."

yes, the odds of the human population drastically decreasing each year as a result of the tests is very likely to happen, but if the government, or whoever is in charge, is able to start the tests, im sure they would be able to end them as well.

for factors like the survivors loving and having children, i guess the government can force people to have children considering they do have the power of law, military, and basically do whatever in society. in a dystopian society, the government gives a damn about nobody.

anyways, i think this is an interesting topic to think and ponder about since dystopian stuff has always interested me in the darkest of ways.

it reminds me a lot of the book called The Giver.

my mom says im crazy like my dad. considering how these type of topics are of my interest, i guess my mother was right lol.

yes, please do read the percy jackson series. its incredibly fun to read, and its on par with the harry potter series. in other words, its extremely popular among the young adults.

oh, about the roles of a story, i was giving you a choice between a tragic main character and a cunning villain, but your choice of role is interesting anyhow. i love the idea of a character plotting his/her revenge over the course of years and then surprising the character who betrayed them. its always so satisfying when reading that in stories.

as for me, i would go with the cunning villain.

being the hero is always stressful and full of work, so i would rather be the opposite. if the hero falls into tragedy, that means the villain wins. villains are intelligent, have amazing capabilities, and have all the wealth and power while casting all unnecessary emotions away. i would like that.

listening to nobody and the rules of society is a type of freedom that would normally be impossible to achieve within society's rules, but if youre the villain, the social outcast, why do you need to worry about that?

oh, i see, the back in time question. hmmmm, to be honest, i have no idea.

i would either go to time of my father or mother and just observe how they lived, or perhaps i could turn back to the time when i was a child and observe my actions. it could be interesting- seeing the personalities of my parents and of my younger self. i probably wouldnt interfere as that would cause a huge butterfly reaction, but just observing would be fine.

what about you?

Ah, Thank you for understanding! And from what I can recall, the movie that reminds me of this whole “test movement,” is called The Thinning where the plot is so-so but the movie describes perfectly with what you just stated. That said, the chances of popularity failing rapidly every year is a possible guarantee as most students today couldn’t care less what-

-they score in school and their grades in their final year of high school. But perhaps this could be a golden key for lazy students to up their game if they decided that they don’t wanna be killed.

Setting all that aside, in the society that we live in, I don’t see a world where a person is tested by their intelligence and see if they’re eligible to keep living for another year or-

-ending their lives on the spot anytime soon. However, this is the government we’re talking about and as we all know, the government makes a lot of ignorant decisions when it comes to saving the lives of 350 million people in the US.

If it were to ever occur such a vile event, then I guess we have to be prepared? Yikes

Utopia and dystopian worlds are mostly involved with what the government decided to do the more you think about it. One day we can be roaming free without worry of the government deciding to kill us all of the sudden, to having a specific group of people murdered just because the government pronounced such. It’s strange and rather concerning that a dystopian society could occur at any time.

But yeah, I’ll be sure to read the Percy Jackson series once I get my hands on it!

And oops, my mistake! I didn’t know that’s what you meant lol. But now that we speak of this topic, I would choose the cunning villain any day. Planning my next move and making plans b and c’s in case if the first plan doesn’t go as planned.-

-And have backup plans in case any unexpected event occurs during the process. Likewise, it’s a real shocker when you do come across such a plot twist where the villain ends up becoming someone the main character has known since childhood in certain books.

Being the hero and saving the world for the majority of most plots in books and movies does becomes a cliche thing once you can predict what transpires next. But that said, I think writing about the villain in such a story is way more entertaining and exciting than writing about the hero’s storyline. You can basically have-

-your villain do whatever it desires and its backstory to why the villain despises the main character so much. Sure, you can replicate the same to the hero but it doesn’t have that same enjoyment of writing a tragic backstory for its character. I don’t know, I often find the villain's motives more fascinating in movies and books.

Ooo, interesting.

As for me, I would head back to whatever timeline it was when the french just discovered art and observe how the modern artist used to paint and perhaps get an insight into their techniques and tips of painting a portrait or even a person.
